Is being tan worth risking your life?

It is easy totanningbed admit, everyone loves the look of having a nice tan. What used to be a rare luxury in the summertime has now become one of the most harmful obsessions for humans, especially young girls. With very busy social lives that entail many events that girls think they would look significantly better at if they were tan, year round tanning is becoming extremely deadly.

There are many options for young girls to achieve their goal of having this bronze glow. Sunless tanning lotions, spray tans and going to tanning salons seem to be the most popular methods especially when the summer days have ended. It has been proven that consumers who use sunless tanning lotions and spray tans are less likely to lay out in the sun and more likely to take better care of their skin. However, within this amount of girls it has been proven that approximately 2.5% have admitted that in addition to using tanning lotions they also go to tanning salons. Nonetheless, using sunless and UV-free products is a much healthier way to achieve the bronze look that everyone wants.
Unfortunately, tanning salons are still in business because of this continuing trend. According to the FDA, exposing your skin to UV rays, both indoors and outdoors, poses an extreme high risk for one to develop skin cancer. People who use tanning beds before the age of thirty-five increase their chances of developing skin cancer by 75%. Attempts to end the accessibility to the tanning salons at such a young age have been made, like having to be eighteen to be in one, but girls are still finding their way into them. Using tanning beds is extremely dangerous because people become more likely to develop melanoma which is the deadliest kind of skin cancer.

In addition to being more vulnerable to skin cancer, premature aging as well as eye damage can occur, which can lead to a surplus of long-term health issues.

Although many people are aware of the negative effects of tanning many people still chose to use tanning beds. It is similar to people who know the dangers and harmful effects of smoking cigarettes but chose to continue doing so. I think that a large part of people tanning is they feel they appear more attractive when they have some color but is it really worth it? during the summer i love going to the beach, drenching myself in oil and laying out for hours, which i know is bad, but i always feel and look a lot better after a day in the sun. in the Winter, although it is harmful, i feel like i have to go tanning or else i look unhealthy or sick. i will start to use more self tanner after reading this, but stopping completely will be a struggle.

Hey I did my blog on tanning too you should check it out. Heres a link to it. I found a bunch of things for and against it, but I’m guilty of wanting to tan all the time too, despite it not being worth the risks.

I feel like just knowing that going to a tanning bed and using artificial UV rays sounds unhealthy. Tanning beds link to many cases of cancer and are definitely not worth the risk. By staying away from tanning beds and using protective sunscreen, people immediately decrease their risk of skin cancer. There is no way to completely avoid going in the sun, and our bodies need to be exposed to some sunlight for vitamin D. My dermatologist told me to try to get at least 10 minutes of sun exposure a day for vitamin D.

I don’t think one summer has gone by where I don’t go to the beach or sit outside wanting to get a really nice tan. Or when I’m on vacation and it’s the last day and I sit in the sun until I fry hoping my burn will turn into a nice tan by the time I get home, but I just end up peeling anyways. Recently, I’ve realized the risk that comes with doing foolish things like this. Although I have never been tanning in a bed, I believe that sun exposure and UV light exposure is equally dangerous. These both cause wrinkles, sun spots, and are leading causes of skin cancer. According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, “Worldwide, there are more skin cancer cases due to indoor tanning than there are lung cancer cases due to smoking.” I found this piece of information shocking because I feel I know more smokers than people who indoor tan. Skin cancer seems to be a problem world wide and one way to stop it is to regulate tanning bed usage like you said. Perhaps set better time limits, make the age for usage higher, and maybe even make a limit as to how many times in a certain time frame you can go. This is such a preventable thing that is looked passed by many, wear sun screen and protect your skin!

It is very interesting to me that people know the risks they are taking towards their health by going to tanning beds and laying in the sun. A comparison I make to tanning in tanning beds is smoking. Obviously, the risks of smoking are far worse, but it is still the same concept, people know it is bad for them but do it anyway. It really makes me wonder why people do these things to themselves, and is a very interesting topic.

I think everyone knows that tanning is one of the worst things you can do for your skin. What is interesting to me is that tanning outside or just a day out in the sun isn’t looked at as harmful. Many people think it’s great to get a healthy glow or a funny burn line after a day of playing outside but don’t consider the risks of it. Artificial tanning is looked at as the worst thing ever and full of dangers which it is but so is getting a tan outside. The risks may be slightly different and maybe not as high but they are still there and something to consider when you forget the sunscreen on a day at the amusement park.
