Should animal testing be banned?

Many people think that testing our products, chemicals, or medicines on animals is cruel and needs to be stopped. They believe that if humans have the right to not be tested on, so do animals. Our classifications are different but the biological processes, feeling of pain, breathing, and emotions are quite common. The worst part of the whole concept is that animals do not get a say in the matter; they are forcibly experimented with and cannot do anything about it. The best argument in my opinion is the one surrounding the idea that they have feelings too. How would you like to have toxic chemicals poured into your eyes just to see what happens?

On the other side of things, animal testing is a very helpful process when it comes to the safety of the products that we purchase on a daily basis. Everything from the medicine we take in the morning to the shampoo we use in the shower is tested, usually on animals. Animal testing has lead to several medical breakthroughs such as the drug Herceptin. Herceptin was discovered by experimenting on mice in a laboratory. It has increased the survival rate for breast cancer. Mice are good animals to experiment on because of their short life expectancy and similar DNA to humans.

In my opinion, animal testing should only take place in a situation where you cannot test a product on anything else, or with any type of chemicals. Animals have feelings just like we do, the difference is when an animal dies that you aren’t close with it doesn’t impact you as it would if it were your own pet. Animal testing is done with random animals and so scientists believe that they are doing a justice by testing important theories on animals that nobody really cares about. Animal testing is a seemingly important process used by scientists, but it can be quite cruel depending on severity of the test.

I hate that we have to use animals as testing subjects for many every day necessities. I hate seeing dogs or cats being harmed by the dangerous research done by scientists done on them. I honestly would rather it be done on rats or mice. What can I say, puppies are cuter? Although I do think scientific research on animals is wrong we don’t have a way in science yet to experiment other than on animals. How are we going to further our knowledge in the science world if we choose to ban animal testing?

I would like to say that animal testing should be banned. I think it is cruel and I really love animals. But unfortunately this is unrealistic. We seem to need to test on animals in order to make scientific advancements. However, I hope it is only done when something cannot be tested for with anything else, as you said. How our society views pets and animals overall would have to change in order for animal testing to change, in regards to how now we act as if we are more dominant than them and can do with them what we want. This is unfortunately difficult to imagine happening.

First of all I think that animal tests should be banned. However the reality sometimes does need those sacrifices to figure out some scientific facts. So, I totally agree with you that animal testing should only take place in a situation where you cannot test a product on anything else, or with any type of chemicals. Personally, I think every type of animal testing is wrong. Unfortunately, at times it needs to be done to figure out the affects of things. i agree with you that animal testing should only be done under certain circumstances when it is absolutely necessary. Animals being tested with makeup produces should be stopped by the government since makeup isn’t necessary and animals shouldn’t be put in harm to create those products.
