Why Does Your Head Hurt?

Headaches. Everyone has them, everyone hates them, and it seems like everything causes them. They always occur in the most inconvenient of times and when you need them least. But what exactly is it that is causing this constant pounding to occur? The list of causes could go on and on but the most common type of headache is the tension headache.

According to Medicine Net, a tension headache is a “short lived, infrequent, mild headache.” They are often referred to as stress headaches as well. But what is it that causes they annoyances in all of our lives? As a college student, you’ll probably have a tension headache more times than not. They develop from lack of sleep, increased stress, eye strain, over exertion and anxiety. So pretty much our day to day lives. For me personally, there is no doubt in my mind that my tension headaches develop from lack of sleep. It is even possible for some people to experience these for a period of about 15 days, which are referred to as chronic tension headaches, something I hope to never experience.

So since we all suffer from these pain inconveniences, how can we possibly treat them? We all know the normal over-the-counter meds, such as Advil, aspirin, and acetaminophen. Relaxation techniques and a good diet can also contribute to a lessened amount of tension headaches. But the key to controlling these headaches is identifying the triggers and doing all possible to avoid them. I’m not one to suffer from serious migraines but I am close with people who do, and for them, identifying triggers is extremely vital. And although this is a much more minor issue, it can still be helpful for the busy life that we are trying to maintain.

This blog is extremely helpful to all people especially us college students being under all the stress and pressure we must deal with. I would love to learn more and research about this topic to see the different ways that might cure headaches. I’m sure I will have plenty of time over the next 4 years to test many of these different ways out. I like how you called this a “minor issue” because it really is not a huge deal, it would just be nice to be able to deal with these tension headaches sometimes.

Hi! Your topic is really good for us to read. Tension headache always drives me mad during recent days. Your suggestions are really helpful. Thanks a lot! I always feel headache but I did not know that there are different types of headache, like you said, tension headache is probably the most common one. I have found an article about the differences between migraine and headache. You might want to check that. Nice blog!

I found your blog to be very interesting and beneficial to many college students. Everyone is experiencing some chronic headaches for the reasons you’ve state above. I tend to get them when i lack sleep or even when i lack food in my system. Sometimes i get random pounding headaches for a minute or two but that is still unexplainable to me. I found this website that gives some ways to cure a headache.

I used to get frequent migraines and had no clue what the problem was for my getting them. It occurred when I was little and used to be very self-conscious and over think every little subject. It lead to stress and embarrassment, in which lead to my frequent headaches. I never found the answer to the problem, I just hoped it was a phase. Great job explaining the topic and going in depth in how people are effected.

I found this to be a very interesting topic because there have been times when I have gotten headaches and don’t understand what could be causing them. I had never though of the idea that me being stressed or anxious could be the reason why I have a headache. This makes sense though because I tend to get them when I am stressed or worrying about something. I also had no idea that medicine wasn’t necessarily the best treatment, but rather getting rid the stresses. Good job ob explaining this topic.
