Possible Auto-Immune Disease Solution

Auto Immune Disease:

Auto-immune disease is something that affects only up to 8% of the United States population. There are 80 various forms of auto-immune disease that someone can be diagnosed with; Heart diseases are major in this case.   Ischemic Heart Disease is life threatening.  Ischemia is a condition in which blood flow (and thus oxygen) is restricted or reduced in a part of the bodyAlopecia is a disease that results in the loss of hair on the scalp and else where on the body. The National Alopecia Areata Foundation website describes the three types of severeness that this disease breaks down into, as well as states that “No matter how widespread the hair loss, the hair follicles remain alive and are ready to resume normal hair production whenever they receive the appropriate signal. In all cases, hair regrowth may occur even without treatment and even after many years.”

This auto immune disease can affect people of all races and all ages, but commonly begins in childhood. The loss of hair is usually noticed amongst the scalp. Hair loss in the case of alopecia areata is due to the attack of white blood cells on hair follicles.

“The affected hair follicles are mistakenly attacked in groups by a person’s own immune system [thus leaving] these affected follicles [to] become very small, drastically slow down production, and grow no hair visible above the surface for months or years.”

What causes Alopecia Areata ?

What causes Alopecia Areata ?

The three types of Alopecia are classified as areata (patchy), totalis, and unviversalis. All forms have something thing in common, there is no known medical “cure”. I myself have an acute form of alopecia areata. I first noticed minor patches amongst my scalp when I was in the sixth grade. These patches were thinned out but not completely bald. I payed them no mind until one day after waking up from an over night sleep, I had two quarter sized bald patches among the temporal sections of my scalp.

Causes of Alopecia/Known Treatments

Alopecia is a disease which its victims can not escape. About 10% of people who get alopecia may never regrow their hair back.  The medical field has no known cure for alopecia and have yet to find an understanding as to why people may have this disease.  Treatments range from foam to gel like medical creams to rub on the balding regions to corticosteroids injections to the scalp.  Other alternatives such as cortisone pills have been proven to be affective yet can lead to dangerous health affective results.  Patients who have alopecia can visit dermatologists where they will then be explained the many speculated hypothesis of what increases the chance of someone being likely to have alopecia.

WebMD states that “You are more likely to have permanent hair loss if you:

-Have a family history of the condition.
-Have the condition at a young age (before puberty) or for longer than a year.
-Have another auto immune disease.
-Are prone to allergies(atopy).
-Have extensive hair loss….”

Scientists have correlated many reasons of body internal abnormalities with having auto immune diseases. Dr. Nickolas Hedberg has verbally recorded his ideals on auto immune disease with 15 different possible connections to the connections of a person having an alopecia auto immune disease.

One of his key factors that I will be focusing on is nutrient deficiency.  Lack of proper nutrition and medical imbalances nevertheless set your body off from functioning properly.  The solution proposed today would be one of changing the problem internally through diet change.  In the community of auto immune disease people have started to result to other solutions then those that are chemically lab based solutions.

The Paleo Diet

Your probably wondering what the Paleo diet is ?  People who try to eat well balanced meals are attempting to fix the issue of lack of nutritions.  They believe that poor diet is correlational to the existence of their auto immune disease.  The Paleo diet is a powerful diet that has been shown in studies make nutritional improvements for its testers.

Wow, this diet surely must be easy!

Wow, this diet surely must be easy!

The core food elements of the Paleo diet are raw nutritional foods (raw meaning uncooked).  This diet is named off of the Paleolithic era.  Dating back to 12,000 years ago, the foods that “cave man” had available to hunt/eat, are the same foods dieters can intake.

5 Studies on the Paleo Diet is an article that cracks the question of whether the diet works or not.   On the Authority Nutrition website, they proclaim that,  “This diet advocates consumption of unprocessed animals and plants, including meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds.  It shuns processed foods, sugar, dairy and grains, although some of the more modern “versions” of paleo do allow foods like dairy and rice.”

The test was done on the hypothesis in comparison of which worked better,  modern day diets or  the consumption of foods available during human evolution against ischaemic heart disease with a randomization of glucose intolerance or type 2 diabetes.  The experiment done by Lindenberg

Disease Similarities

It is true that these test do not conduct research on Alopecia Areata.  Yet, Alopecia Areata is an auto immune disease that has similarities to other forms of auto immune diseases.  The paleo diet has been correlated to be affective in reducing illness .
