Listening to Music While Doing Homework/Studying Lead To Better Results?

While sitting down to study in the Findlay Commons I look around and notice all the different study habits between students. A certain study habit is more effective for someone in comparison to others because all brains work differently when trying to integrate memorization or muscle memory.  A study shows the most effective study habits include practicing by yourself, memory games, and going to your own quiet place. Those ways are typically the way I study. But, when I walk around the commons I notice more people than not wearing headphones and studying. I never really understood the reasoning of listening to music while studying because it is another voice in your head that takes away the sole purpose of memorization. Since I never understood the meaning for this interesting study habit, I researched whether music leads to better results for those that listen to it.

musicstudy

I tried to listen to music while studying and could not focus on the task at hand. But, a study shows that music is beneficial when studying. A study done by Elana Goodwin states, “Studies have shown that listening to music before studying or performing a task can be beneficial as it improves attention, memory, and even your ability to do mental math as well as helping lessen depression and anxiety.” The researchers typically compare this to the Mozarts Effect. For those who do not know, the Mozarts Effect is a study that shows while listening to Mozart’s music one receives a short-term improvement in their capabilities.

listen-to-mozart-while-working-e1422667099111

But, I found a flaw in there correlation with Mozarts Effect. I walked up to 10 different kids in the Findlay commons that were studying for a quiz or midterm and listening to music. I proceeded to ask them what genre of music they were listening to and whom. The responses varied from rap, to pop, to country, but none of them had Mozarts’ pieces playing in their earbuds. The survey take was very small, but typically high school/college students who have proven to benefit from listening to music while studying are listening to different genres.

Another study done also proves that listening to music can effect studying. But, the studying must be an organizational related study. Perham, the researcher involved in the study claims, “Listening to music may diminish your cognitive abilities in these situations because when you’re trying to memorize things in order, you can get thrown off and confused by the various words and notes in the song playing in the background.” The organization of one’s study can be altered because of the words or beat that is constantly in one’s head. The music genre does not matter, the sound effects the performance in itself.

The studies shown prove that music can be both beneficial and digressive. Differentiating between the type of study someone is engaged in plays a key factor. Also, the person’s tolerance level to noise and whether they use it progressively can determine whether they listen to music while studying. Studying should not be based off other peoples’ opinions of how study. There is no better way to study but your own because different study habits make one more comfortable in comparison to others. This study shows that I should not be so quick to judge other students and how they study because maybe they find it beneficial. Some people succeed when put in specific scenarios, and one scenario I will never find useful is music during study hours, but people are different and results vary.

Is Society Too Dependent on Computers/Phones?

When was the last time you did not know the answer to a question and you researched the answer? I am not referring to researching the answer using your phone/computer/tablet/or lap top. I am talking about looking through a book or article to discover the answer to the question. The answer anyone would give me would most likely be along the lines of, “I could not tell you, I cannot remember.” How about the last time you wanted to come in contact with someone and you just drove over to there house to talk to the face to face? Probably going to get the same response. I ask these questions because I believe society is becoming too dependent on computers and technology to the point where they would struggle without it, including myself.

untitled

In a study, people were asked to give a personal opinion of whether they believe society is too reliable on technology and how they came up with that response. The results were one-sided. 77% of people responded believe society as a whole relied too much on technology to succeed. Some of the responses looked like this, “Thirty years ago, 90% of the kids were outside getting oxygen and playing sports. In addition, they were building forts and enjoying life. In this day an age, more than 75% of our children are playing video games and staying indoors. Now, our dilemma is that we are having a weight issue with our children. Child obesity is a growing concern with our nation.” Those numbers used are an exaggeration, but he has a point. Very few, if any, enjoy the outdoors and can enjoy life without technology sitting in front of them.

5564757_f248

Walk through campus and see how many times you see two people standing right next to each other, but do not say a word to each other. People have shown they can hold conversation over the internet and through phone, but put a real face in front of them and they struggle. Conversation is now viewed as a skill in today’s society, and our citizens should not have to avoid face-to-face contact because of their addiction to a cell phone or computer.

A computer or phone has been a great development for technology and has lead us to various technological advances, but with the good, also comes the bad. MNN did a study of seven different signs showing the controversy of why society is based around technology. A few of the signs included, “Without your phone you feel naked, Nobody knows a phone number, and if the internet is down, work is over for the day.” Society has integrated technology into every aspect of human life so we cannot live without. Jobs, breakthroughs, and values have all been invested into your hand held phone and computer you take for granted. A study shows the brain when realizing a phone is broken and our thought patterns. The patterns show the same as if it was a man who was clinically depressed and needs help. If one breaking a phone and leading into emotions that are similar to a man who needs help emotionally, the definitive answer is society has issues with their connection to society. So here is my advice to you, put your phone down when at that point in time it is not a necessity and go outside and get some fresh air because the importance of enjoying yourself without technology has been lost.

Are Curfews Effective When Keeping Teens Out of Trouble?

No parent wants to see their kid coming home at 4 in the morning. Every parent relates the time their child comes home at with whether they were correlated in an event that could have a negative occurrence. Teenage years revolve around finding one’s self, outlook on the future, and at times, participating in events cause they are considered cool. Also, a form of acting rebellious. I was in high school, and without seeing statistics to backup my arguments I have first-hand experience that curfews lead teens to stay out of trouble. When I refer to curfews I am referring to state laws, not their parents giving the teenager a certain time to come home because those times vary among different adults.

A study shows that state’s that have curfews have lower crime rate among teens. For example, “Typical curfews require that teenagers under 17 years stay out of streets starting from 11pm or midnight. This is believed to protect them from crimes committed after nightfall, as well as from violating the law, and there exist serious evidence in favor of this conviction. For example, when New Orleans enabled a dusk-till-dawn curfew in 1994, the rates of juvenile crime were reported to fall more than 20 percent.” To go along with that statistic it also shows, “Even more impressive results were recorded in Dallas, which reported a 30 percent decrease in violent juvenile crime, and a 21 percent decrease in the overall rates of crimes committed by young people.” Crime rate among teens is proven to go down when curfews are enforced among teenagers.

Curfew

Teenage curfews have been a widely debated topic throughout history. Parents curfews have been enforced to the distraught sense on a teenage. While curfews enforced by the government have become a larger issue due to the fact that some parents do not believe their child should have a curfew. That is a factor in the problem with society, but that is an argument for another day. I believe curfew laws need to be involved because of the safety of the children. The child involved may not drink or engage in any events that usually lead to trouble, but coming home around midnight compared to 2AM is much safer. A study shows that drunk driving accidents are 4.5 times greater to occur later at night than during the day. Why put your child in risk to become a victim of a drunk driving accident? The child might have implications in doing anything wrong, but can still be effected.

curfewlaw

I also believe a curfew develops values within a teen. It instills responsibility and awareness amongst teenagers. If a teenage values the curfew law that means he understands the importance of it and its effect on society. The curfew law is enforced to keep teenager’s parents out of court arguing and saving money from the wrongdoing of their child. Studies show that 93% of cities that currently enforce a curfew law believe it is effective. The law also helps out cops because they are less apt to worry about children participating in troublesome late night events in the case that their parents are not strict and do not abide by their own curfew laws. Curfews are heavily effective within cities and states that value them. The law is a progressive sign in society that keeps teenagers out of trouble and is for the betterment of their life.

Why is Protein Vital In Muscle Growth?

If you have been on a college campus or around a gym I will guarantee you will see a multitude of guys walking around with oddly shaped bottles filled with an interesting colored liquid. These guys are most likely drinking a protein shake or some form of pre-workout. If you walked up to those guys and asked them, “Why do you drink protein shakes?” They would answer and say, “To get bigger.” At this point in time it is common knowledge that protein equates to gaining muscle and putting on body mass, but no one is aware of how the protein body building works and why it is so vital in producing muscle stature.

Chocolate-Peanut-Butter-Banana-Protein-Shake

To everyone who thought added on protein gave an advantage was a myth or had a small effect, they were wrong. It is a fact, protein is the most influential aspect of building muscle mass. A study shows that muscles are created of protein and protein is integrated into every cell in the body. The study states, “Our body uses protein to build and repair tissues to make enzymes, hormones, and other body chemicals.” If there is a lack of protein in your diet you cannot build muscle, it is as simple as that. Certain foods have higher grams of protein and that is why body builders stress to keep a mass amount of those foods in your diet.

Protein, unlike other nutrients involved in your daily diet does not store in your body such as a fat or carbohydrate would. Everything your body does not need leaves the body as waste. That is why it is vital for people trying to gain muscle that they keep protein a part of their daily diet so it is effective as possible while in your body before the excrete of waste. Carbohydrates is the main energy source in the body, but when there is not enough carbohydrates involved in a diet its secondary source is protein that is built from muscle.

vital_ingredients_artwork-copy1

This leads to the consumption of protein shakes and how important they are in muscle mass. Protein shakes usually vary from somewhere around 30-60 grams of protein per serving. In a study, the average amount of protein intake a day should be around .36 grams per pound of body weight. As you can tell, protein shakes build muscle in their sole purpose of adding protein to one’s daily diet. An average male weighing 180 pounds should have an average protein intake of 500 grams per day based on this model. Protein is not just important in muscle growth, but also health.

Protein is in every cell of ones body and is vital in living. Protein is an alternative source for the energy consumption that occurs in your body. Strong muscles are not important enough to differentiate between a life or death situation, but they are so important when you get up there in age. WebMD says ligaments, muscles, and joints are all effected by protein and the more infused in your body, the longer you will be nimble throughout your lifetime. When every cell in a body is composed of this nutrient, it is a realization how important it is to be successful in gaining muscle mass. Those guys walking around college campuses may not know how protein intake works and how influential it is in muscle gain, but they are aware of the importance of it in everyday health.

Social Media: Is it Benefiting or Digressing Society?

In this day and age a study shows the older generation seems to be agitated when it comes to social media. They see it as a tool to avoid conversation and voice your opinion over the internet instead of speaking it aloud. The younger generation believes it progresses in the opposite way. They see it as a way to voice opinion and create connections effortlessly. Both arguments have strong appeal, but the question of whether or not social media is beneficial towards society is a tricky one.

Society for Human Resource Management developed a research to verify the results of social media and how it effective it is on society specifically in the workplace. The results involved better communication between employees leading to enhancement in business contacts, improvement of reputation, and creating a larger market research. The study only occurred in the workplace, but the results are interesting and can be correlated when discussing society in general.

twitter-1024x1024

But, you have to take the good with the bad. For every positive outcome, there seems to be a negative. The study also shows a growing hacking detail along with lack of productive work being done. Social media is addicting and the opportunity for use in the workplace can be altered. When I do homework my phone/laptop is so tempting look at for the sake of procrastination and does effect the outcome of my work.

Another study done by Steven Morris shows social media benefits the elderly, the ones who constantly neglect the importance of it. Morris claims, “Training older people to use social media improves cognitive capacity, increases a sense of self-competence and could have a beneficial overall impact on mental health and physical well-being.” A study done in England and Italy gave the elderly a piece of technology and isolated them. The study resulted in the technologically savvy having no trouble in the feeling of isolation while talking to friends and family members over the web. On the other hand, the elderly who were unaware of how to use the technology felt isolated and had trouble surviving.

If-you-treat-social-media-as-a-feedback-panel-and-a-customer-service-tool-and-never-as-another-one-way-advertising-medium-you-will-find-tha

The study above done by Steven Morris details the importance of technology in society and how one advantage outweighs every other disadvantage: the importance of connection. Society connects and proposes opinions over social media and in some forms, need it to converse with loved ones and friends. There are negatives to usage, but they can be avoided when used correctly. Social media creates a connection in society that would fail in comparison to life without it. It benefits society and our way of conversing, but most importantly enhances connection, stability, and accuracy in the work world. Steven Morris and the Society for Human Resources Management create arguments that are hard to refute in dealing with the success of social media. The older generation is quick to generalize, but in reality they are part of the large number of people who benefit off of the use of social media.

Sport Involving The Most Athleticism: A Never Ending Debate

Throughout life everyone has heard arguments over which sport is better and which sport is more challenging. There seems to be no definitive answer because of bias on which sport that person finds interesting and which sport that person participates in. But, another sports related argument that frequently occurs is what sport holds the most athleticism when discussing athletes who play the specific sport. This argument, scientifically, can hold an answer without bias becoming an over-whelming factor.

Athleticism is a topic discussed that varies on the viewpoint of the person. When looking at statistics in which character traits of athleticism hold the most weight in a debate they come down to: sustaining speed, strength, and agility level while performing them simultaneously in sporting events. If wondering why they are the main focus; the definition for athleticism is: of or relating to athletes; involving the use of physical skills or capabilities, as strength, agility, or stamina. There are various categories when discussing athleticism and each sport has its own trait one has to excel in. Such as baseball correlating around hand-eye coordination, football involving strength and speed, and basketball including lateral quickness and finesse.

PITTSBURGH, PA - SEPTEMBER 7: Antonio Brown #84 of the Pittsburgh Steelers attempts to hurdle Spencer Lanning #5 of the Cleveland Browns and gets an unnecessary roughness penalty during the second quarter at Heinz Field on September 7, 2014 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)

Researcher Gary Emmons discovered the most athletic trait to master involves hand-eye coordination. That leads him to believe the two toughest sports are baseball and tennis. When hitting a baseball you are sixty feet from home plate trying to hit a ball that can be thrown at 100+ MPH while adjusting to off-speed pitches that vary at eye-level. But, if you are not hitting nor pitching you are standing at a position waiting for action. That leaves tennis as the superior to baseball. When talking about tennis, the athlete is sprinting and using his lateral quickness/hand-eye coordination to hit a ball traveling at 120+ MPH into a region of the court. Characteristics of this sport seem to be very complicated, but there is no strength involved.

Muscle Prodigy wrote an article ranking the top ten athletes based on sport. Their research discussed a scale ranking each sport based on strength, agility, endurance, and speed on a 1-10 point system. The sport holding the number one spot was Mixed Marial Arts. They go on to say, “Combine boxing and wrestling together and then go for 5 minutes straight (times 3)…let’s see how you feel. Reacting to kicks, punches, and double leg takedowns is hard enough, but doing it while you are exhausted from throwing your own is on a whole new level.” This sport revolves around strength, pain tolerance, and hand-eye coordination. Still a sport that does not involve all areas of athleticism on the highest level.

asdfasdfasd

Scientifically speaking, the answer to the debate of the most consistent athletic specimen in sports resides on the gridiron. Football involves all aspects of athleticism and in every position one needs to excel at every category. Speed, strength, stamina, lateral quickness, and hand-eye coordination are vital. But, a missing factor is involved: the transfer of sports. Andrew Tange of Bleacherreport states football players Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson migrated over to baseball and succeeded. This shows football athletes are very versatile. Also, with the way football is in an evolution, lineman are expected to run 4.8 forty yard dashes and be able to get out in open space and block. Speed and jumping ability are essential parts in athleticism and year after year at the NFL combine records are set. Football is primetime when debating the stereotypical athlete, and statistics and numbers prove it.

Can Becoming Homesick Lead to Physical Disease?

I am sure this blog post will resonate with all college students (especially east halls). When people leave home, they tend to handle it differently. Some are happy that they get to explore, some look at it as a new chapter in life, and some just do not know how to handle it and get a certain feeling called homesickness. My entire life I always had the belief that homesickness was just an emotion that you were too far away from home and felt hopeless. This specifically is a huge factor when teenagers finally arrive on campus and their parents are not constantly beside them. In a way, that is being termed homesick, but it is also referenced as fear of independence. Kids do not know how to handle living by themselves and give up. That is one form of homesickness, but there is also such a disease as homesickness that leads to physical distraught.

th

There has been in depth studies that have gone into homesickness that are on record back from 1608. Homesickness was elaborated on by Elizabeth Van Brocklin from a study she researched in which a man traveled from Berne to Basel and noticed physical ailments. The surprising changes lead him to inference that these occurred since he left his home. The study has its flaws because of the time of the occurrence and maybe the man happened to come down with the flu. Apparently, when the man returned home because of a doctor’s advice and he immediately felt better.

This lead to the conclusion that homesickness is a physical disease. A study at the University of Michigan shows that there are various levels of homesickness due to the way people adjust to their absence of home. Personality plays a huge role in the physical illness and that is why different people get hit harder than others in how they are feeling. Its symptoms are dehydration, upset stomach, a sense of loneliness, and constant vomiting. People inherit this mindset that they are all alone with no direction in life and there is nowhere to go but down. This leads to failure and sickness which in end result leads to a mass amount of medical help.

homesick1

This disease is all about adjustment. In my opinion, it is all in your head, which leads to overreaction which results in physical impairments that your mind has trouble creating a solution for. Homesickness is more of a disorder in your mind that plays you like a puppet. If someone leaves home with no sense of how to handle themselves, this can lead to emotional letdown. Some instances affect some people more than others. That is why some people survive in college atmospheres, and some do not.

Do Fish Sleep?

One of life’s unanswered questions and one I was always curious of being, “Do fish sleep?” They do not have eyelids and always seem to be constantly going. People just assume they do not because they have trouble thinking of a fish laying down to get some rest similar to the way mammals do. It also probably enters the mindset of a few people that fish always has to be protective of themselves just in case certain species are near them that want to use them as prey. Most species need food to survive, for many types it is themselves. Which leads to assumptions that fish are awake on high alert at all times. Well, if you were one of the curious human beings that did assume that, your inference was incorrect.

fish-sleep

To finally answer your question, fish do sleep. Not all fish sleep the same, but all species do sleep. It is hard to process since they do not sleep like mammals. Fish take naps and sleep when they get tired, just like mammals. Humans sleep by closing their eyes and looking at their eyelids while a certain brain wave pattern is featured in their neocortex. Fish have neither of those functioning in or on their body so their resting time happens quite differently. When analyzing a fish to know they are sleeping, there are four definitive observations to notice during that period of time. The four consist of inactivity for a long time, a resting posture, a certain period of time each day they do rest, and decreased sensitivity to their environment.

Most fish rest, but some complete the process in different ways Cardiac and respiratory rates are lowered along with less movement occurring in vital places. The mackerel and bluefish have never been spotted sleeping. Both species constantly swim and around night time they happen to swim less and create less movement, but never come to a complete stop. Also, depending on the habitat they live in (yes, they all live in water) such as lower depths or a higher surface can influence the amount of sleep they get. It has been recorded that surface fish sleep four times more than cave fish. All fish are different

fish sleep

Research shows that there is a specific gene in all fish that is either dominant or regressive that determines how long and if they sleep. The proof shows that the cave fish’s gene is dominant, which leads to their shorter need for sleep. The only similarity between a mammal’s rest and a fish’s rest is that they both process and refresh brain functions from sleeping. Fish are different from mammals, but it should be a universal question whether they rest or not. Most of every species need rest, they just receive that sleep in different ordeals.

Can One Consume Too Much Water?

A common saying amongst people is, “You can never drink too much water.” It is proven that water is necessary to live and should never be substituted in comparison to other liquids. Water is used in various diets due to the rapid growth in metabolism, which typically results in a speedy weight loss. Doctors always encourage patients to drink as much water as possible to stay hydrated and maintain a healthy body. But, I have always been one to take sayings too literal. So, is it possible to consume too much water in a way that it would be unhealthy and negatively affect your living style?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The answer is yes, it is almost as deadly as drinking very little to keep up with a healthy lifestyle. Research shows that the general population lives by the saying, “If a little is good, then more must be better.” Well, scientists and doctors could not stress enough, do not live by that motto. For example, statistics have accumulated showing deaths of various athletes stemming from drinking too much water or liquid during physical activity. Sometimes, you have to listen to your body to do what is correct to stay healthy. Athletes specifically believe that is the opposite.

This crusade of death is known as EAH – exercise-associated hyponatremia. The problem with the excess drinking of water comes from the surplus of liquid that is sustained in the kidneys. Sodium and water battle it out and when too much is too much, the cells begin to swell in which many cases lead to death. Experts recommend to avoid forcibly drinking too much liquid; drink when you need to, not because you believe it is healthy force yourself. Water is constantly entering and leaving your body through sweating, breathing, talking, and urination. One needs to replenish themselves according to their body. The typical male is recommended with a 3.7 liter average intake of water a day. A woman is suggested to drink 2.7 liters of water daily. Some people tend to over-do it which leads to consequences such as EAH.

Peyton-Manning-Gatorade

It is driven into the mindsets of all people that too much is not enough and these are how certain scenarios occur. Some people think not feeling well specifically when referencing physical activity means they are doing something right. Sometimes a switch needs to turn on to realize what they are putting into their body can lead to serious penalties. Water is a necessity for human life, and similar to situations pertaining to alcohol, one needs to know their limit.

Can Music Determine Intelligence?

Parents, teachers, and most authoritative figures always generalize certain types of music and make it seem like that certain genre is effecting you. Just to name a few; rap, heavy metal, and techno music are always heavily criticized. Most people around my age are curious about whether specific genres of music affects intelligence since elders always try to influence their decision on what kind of music they listen to. Various studies have been made to analyze this debated topic. Music plays a role in everyone’s life, and I did some research to figure out whether it is possible to negatively or positively affect the human mind.

Virgil Griffith, who infamously created the Wikipedia scanner dove into another study. This study analyzes college students and their taste in music and their result on standardized testing. To create the chart he searched certain students and the colleges they attended while delving deeper into the study to examine their favorite artists. Using their favorite artist and the current institution they were at, he used the average SAT score of that school to determine the solution. Interestingly enough, authoritative figures were correct. Students who shared a high interest in Rapper Lil Wayne, scored the lowest on the SAT’s. While students who listened to Beethoven scored the highest in their testing. But, there were also surprises in the study. Students who listen to techno music scored the highest in the field. But, with all this information and such a broad study there is still no answer to why this occurs.

brain_headphones_image

The study Virgil Griffith uses include various gray areas. Just because those students have those specific artists on their page, that does not mean those were their favorite artists at the time while taking the SAT. Also, he is using the average score of the college, not the score of the student that they earned. Griffith is using generalized information to make an inference. The information he uses does not create a conclusion either. Griffith found a shortcut and took advantage of it.

Researcher Francis Rauscher found a logical answer. He found music stimulates thought processes and expands spatial reasoning. Spatial reasoning is a skill to think about a topic in a larger capacity, specifically in three dimensions. Studies show that pre-schoolers who participate in music organized clubs, groups, or events have greater spatial reasoning compared to the average student. This study does not give us the answer to specific music and how it affects certain people to others, but it shows that music is an advantage in preparation to the classroom. Researchers research and Griffith’s research also tie a point together: those who experience classical music have an easier time when it pertains to school work.

There will never be a day of life where a human being does not experience music. According to studies, that is a good observation to make. It may be complicated to decipher which music enhances one’s learning skills, but we do know now that it is beneficial in a learning environment. I would recommend listening to Beethoven’s finest hits next time you study.

Exercising and working out is a necessity to maintain a fit body. But, every human being likes to create shortcuts and discover new ways to find the best way to preserve that goal. Throughout high school, I always heard of kids taking different supplements and people accusing them of “cheating” to become so fit. The one supplement I heard most frequently and took the world by storm was creating. Typically, when a new protein or supplement releases doctors quickly release a statement notifying the public of the dangerous outcomes of types of usage. My friends would not stop clamoring about it and how everyone should take it so I became curious. I have yet to hear anything negative about it so I decided to do research on it to figure out about the fascination of it.

The focal point of using creatine is to add body mass and improve athletic performance. Creatine is an amino acid that is made in the human body within the kidney, pancreas, and the liver. The supplement transforms to phosphocreatine which is stowed in the muscles than in which transforms again to finally turn to ATP. ATP is essential is muscle building, but there is a limited supply. Therefore, this is where the creatine works its magic. It rapidly creates the ATP to bring about a recovering affect that leads to more effective muscle building.

Two groups are high in creatine use: athletes and body builders. Athletes assume if you are adding body mass you are becoming stronger, which leads to results on the field. No research has been done on the field, all have come within laboratories during experimental testing. Researchers are still struggling to find an answer on whether creatine increases performance or not, but they have noticed the body uses more fuel during exercise which leads to an increase in muscle mass. Creatine is not illegal within collegiate sports. The athlete is allowed to use the product as much as he/she desires, as long as the team or school does not provide it for them. Which leads to my next topic, I have only listed off benefits of creatine, but you are probably wondering why it is in consideration of a ban if it only creates positive influence.

There are a various amount of positive outcomes that come out of creatine use. But, parents and doctors tend to reiterate the negative effects as frequently as possible. Studies have shown creatine Weight gain, muscle cramps, muscle strains, upset stomach, diarrhea, dizziness, high blood pressure, liver dysfunction, and kidney damage. With the current research found, the only cases of negative side effects have been found in athletes taking obsessive dosages.

While there has been negative side effects found, there has also been positive effects involving diseases. It shows it might help lower triglycerides in men and women to help them stay away from heart disease. Creatine also has been to show that there are also anti-cancer properties involved. There also has been positive findings within Parkinson’s, COPD, and ALS.

When people hear of supplements and protein they are typically scared and are told to stay away and workout all-natural. To figure out the real answer, in depth research should take place. Creatine has benefits in more than one area. Negative side effects have only been found in limited research with improper dosage. Just like with every antibiotic, protein, or supplement to get the correct results one should take it properly. In my opinion, if someone is taking it for the right reasoning and received professional advice, they should not shy away from it. Who knows, it might be a gateway to healing cancer one day.

Initial Blog Post

Hi everyone! My name is David Correll and I can’t wait to get started in SC200 this semester. I’m from Toms River, New Jersey and lived there my entire life before coming to University Park. I grew up surrounded by two teams, Penn State football, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Sports have played a vital part in my life, which leads to why I picked the major I did. I am currently majoring in Broadcast Journalism and plan on minoring in business. Therefore, as you can tell from my interests I was never a big fan of Science. I have always drawn an interested appeal from sports. Ever since I was little I wanted to be on TV, but that was mostly because I knew I would get to travel to all different stadiums and cities. My dream at a young age was to become a sports commentator. Because in my eyes, there is no better opportunity than to travel the nation seeing new things, different sights, cities, and stadiums while giving your analysis and receiving compensation for it. But, I have never had a big interest in science. Since, I am a communication major, I am sure all other students who share the same major can agree with me when saying that when we were informed at NSO none of us were too ecstatic to engage in a mandatory science class. I knew I had to do it so I searched for the most interesting class and landed on SC200 with Andrew. My appeal for sports is too strong to even consider becoming a science major, but that does not mean I am not interested.

Just one of the places I would like to call a game. (Heinz Field)

Just an alternative in case the TV idea fails miserably.
