Are the procrastinators really procrastinating?

Sudden thought this morning prompted by breakfast conversation that the 40% of the class missing from the blog (and therefore currently failing or scraping a D) might in fact not be procrastinators. Maybe is it something to do with my teaching.

So I took a phone poll.

Only about half of the missing 40% responded, but the majority of respondents did put the problem down to procrastination. That’s bad, but at least it’s not my fault (phew).  I was slightly disturbed to discover that 16 students need some help and haven’t asked for it. I am not sure how to get students to seize control of their own education.
