Snow on “National Plant a Flower Day” does make thinking about spring a bit hard, but as we look to the next few days and the hopeful warmup, planting should be on our mind. It’s time to start seeds indoors for our summer gardens. Planting calendars will definitely give you ideas for what to start when, but many of our garden staples need to get started soon. Shortly, the Brassica sp., like broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage, will be ready to go into the early gardens. We’ll be starting carrots and beets in the next weeks too. Spring is basically here, even if the ground is currently white.
If you are looking for heirloom seeds, please remember to check out the Penn State Schuylkill Seed Bank Library and check back for other tips and tricks for your gardens. So right now, it might be difficult to plant a flower, but try planting some seeds.
Happy Gardening!!
