Penn State Library: Keeping Research Real

Today in class we visited the library. We got to meet the communications school librarian, Cheryl McCallips. It was nice to get to know her and see all the resources she knows about because I am a student in the communications school here at Penn State.

We started our tour by all meeting up by the revolving door with my LEAP pride #40. After Cheryl gave us a little intro about her job, we went to look at the leisure books. I don’t usually read for fun but after seeing the large selection of books I might just need to go grab one. After we walked to where all the technology was. We saw all the 3D printers and these rooms where you can film videos. The video rooms will help me in my Comm 100 class because we will need to make a video, so that resource will for sure help me. After we walked through that section of the library we then went upstairs and saw all of the music and video resources we have. I love music and old records so seeing all of the different music I could check out was exciting!

After we finished our tour, we went into one of the computer classrooms. During this part of the tour we got to explore the many different online databases. I had no clue of all the online resources I have accessibility to as a student at Penn State. Looking into the “Communcation’s and Media Studies Subject Guide” was helpful to me because I plan to study advertising which was under this course guide. The “LEAP Course Guide” was also helpful to look at because I am in the LEAP program. I have used some of the programs such as EBSCO so I am able to help my classmates with that database that I have fund very helpful before.

Below are some pictures my professor captured of me and my LEAP Pride in the library!
