AdAge released an article on July 24th, 2019 titled “CHIPOTLE SAYS BEYOND MEAT IS TOO PROCESSED TO PUT IN ITS STORES.” This is a huge deal right now for the food industry, how to produce a large quantity of food for a cheaper price.
Chipotle has been very careful over the past few years after the huge e coli break out and issues with their meat. So why would Chipotle want to do business and sell fake meat? It makes perfect sense as to why they would turn down the offers from Beyond Meat Inc. and Impossible Foods. These companies are known for their highly processed plant-based ingredients in their fake meat.
The companies are known for using pea protein, genetically modified soy and “heme”, that gives the burgers their meat flavor and texture, made from genetically modified yeast. These fake meat products are truly disgusting. But, many people like them because they are a way to consume less meat while still getting the satisfaction of eating a burger and other meat products.
The Beyond Meat CEO Ethan Brown invited Chipotle to come tour their factories to basically see what they are missing out on. But Chipotle will not cave and become like other chain fast food places. The ethics of their company promises to provide customers with fresh and real ingredients only. Chipotle says the products are too processed and goes against their simple food with a menu that uses only 51 ingredients.
Maybe in the near future Chipotle will do business with Beyond Meat Inc. and Impossible Foods, but as of now Chiotle declines their offers and will continue serving real meat to their customers. Chipotle has a vegetarian option on their menu if someone did want to not eat meat though. Having options allows a variety of people to eat in the many Chipotle’s all over the nation.
