Title
Soil: The World Beneath Our Feet
Abstract
Throughout the semester we conducted a series of tests to figure out if the bacteria we found can be an antibiotic producer. On February 17, 2022, we made our journey on campus to dig a hole and collect our soil samples. The soil sample I collected was located behind residence halls on campus (40.64118°N, 76.16912 °W). It was a cloudy day, and the soil was moist and rocky. Several methods were used to conduct these tests. The methods we used were serial dilution, pick and patch plating, biochemical testing, and selective and differential media. I narrowed down the bacteria I wanted to use, and it was regrown on other plates. We also performed a slew of different tests that resulted in giving our soil characteristics (TSI, SIM, MRVP, Catalase, Oxidase…) Other tests that were performed and results are listed throughout the poster.
