My first week at Penn State was more than anything I could have asked for. It was filled with surprises and memories that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I think that I also learned an important lesson this week that I never really needed in high school. That lesson being to really stay ahead of my work. It is very important to do so as college is a lot more fast paced and the professors are going to move on, with or without you.
Throughout my first week here I also made a lot of friends. I have really bonded with my roommate and we have found mutual interests such as basketball, video games, and food. However, we were very disappointed when we missed the time slot for chic-fil-a being open almost every single day. Nonetheless, I had a great time hanging o9ut in my dorm room while we were playing video games and catching up on the homework we were assigned this first week.
Something that I am really happy about is that I got to play golf three times this week. Although I played alone, I have made friends that also brought their clubs here and we are looking forward to hitting the links together. I found that even though it’s only a mile away, going to the Penn State golf courses is a great form of exercise and getting your mind of any troubles you might be having. You get to walk along beautiful nature and free your mind from stress.
Through the course of the week I also did struggle with a few things, the first being the heat. At the beginning of the week, my roommate and I had no fans. It only took about 36 hours to realize that we were insane for not bringing any fans. We had to run over to target and lug over about 10 fans so that we could stay cool in the dorm room. Another thing that I struggled with was adjusting to the food. With a card and a buffet in the dining hall, it was hard to make sure that I was eating healthy. My roommate and I both found that we would come back from each meal stuffed with food and we would regret it every single time.
All in all, I had a great time here with my first week at Penn State. I had a lot of fun, made a lot of good friends, and I am very excited with my classes. I cannot wait for the fall football games, but there is still a lot of events and other fun activities to do while we are here for the summer session.
