Recently, Drake has dropped a new album “Scorpion” featuring 25 tracks which some would say is a tad excessive. However, in only 16 shattering hours, drake’s new album has been averaging 10 million streams per hour. Critics say that this album could be the album that breaks 1 billion streams within its first week of release.
Personally, I found that this album was pretty good and purchased it myself. I think that Drake has the potential to be one of the all-time greats as it seems like he is in charge of the rap-game now. Instantly, Scorpion became the #1 album on iTunes in almost 100 countries upon release which is crazy. It just makes one think about how much influence these high-level stars and celebrities have. It also makes you think if they would ever use that influence to stop problems such as world hunger, poverty, and racial injustice.
After listening to the album, I found something very interesting that I think more artist should be doing within their work. Drake sampled a song from Michael Jackson, one of music’s all-time greats, and not only did he make a good track out of it, but he brings back honor and popularity to Michael Jacksons reign over the music industry. It is not only a smart business move, but also a very honorable one.
Overall, I am very interested to see what direction this album heads in the next couple of weeks. Will everyone keep hyping it up as much as it is right now, or will his streams drop significantly? Nonetheless, Drake is a very talented artist and a more talented celebrity. His relevance over the past decade has only grown which is very hard to do in the music industry and it seems as if he dominates his projects time and time again.
