How to enroll in classes

Students in our programs are responsible for self-enrolling. You need an active program account in order to be able to add classes to your schedule. Assistance is available from your advising team. Contact info for your advisors is at the bottom of this page.

Newly admitted students

Check your welcome letter from Molly Margolis that you received with your offer of admission to determine when you can proceed with course enrollment. Please also make sure you download and use the New Student Onboarding Checklist and intro videos to understand onboarding requirements.

Current students

Your active account will roll over from semester to semester unless you take time off from your program. Michelle Rockower sends an email each semester when enrollment opens, so please check your Penn State email account.

Guides for enrolling in classes (PDF or video)

Please pay special attention to the information about section selection. You will receive a “prerequisites not met” error message if you attempt to add a course section that is not designated for your program.

>>> SMExL master’s degree students have special section numbers.
>>> All other students should select Section 801 only for all courses, with rare exceptions.

After adding classes: what comes next?

Once you have successfully enrolled, you can search the World Campus Bookstore site for needed course materials starting about one month prior to the start of the semester.

On the first day of class, please log in to CANVAS for instructions, information, and to begin your coursework. Your class will be active no later than 10:00 am Eastern on the first day of class. In most cases, students will not receive communications from their course instructors before the first day of class. Students are responsible for marking their calendars and remembering to log into CANVAS on the first day of class to review the syllabus, meet the instructor, and begin their coursework.
