Since I could not go to Chile for global immersion, I decided to create my own “Washington, DC” immersion. I visited Smithsonian museums, Washington Monument, Capitol Hill, the National Archives, and also National Aquarium in Baltimore. It was great fun and I learned a lot about American history and cultures. I was able to see the original Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights as well. I asked the curator at the National Archives about “National Treasure 2” (the movie) and whether it is true to the real security they have there. He answered, “Yes, if there is a security issue, the documents will be pull into the wall. However, since 9/11, they have changed the security system and even the curators were not allowed to know what it is!!!” All in all, my spring break was nothing like I had planned but I did have fun and I learned one important lesson: always look on the bright side and roll with the punches!
