Minority MBA Association Goes Bowling!

On Saturday night, April 23rd, the Minority MBA Association hit the alleys at Northland Bowl to send off the second years, and to celebrate the new executive board.  Laughter filled the air as friends recounted fun memories from the past year.  The Class of 2012 wishes the graduating second years the best of luck in all future endeavors, and we look forward to making new memories with the incoming class! T – 10 “Business” Days

The Inception

In 10 “Business” days, we will be walking out of here with a MBA degree. Two years have gone by in the blink of an eye and here we are…at the threshold of graduating from the Penn State Smeal College of Business!

As I look back over the last 22 months or so, I am astonished by the breadth of social connections that I have made during the course of the MBA program. Not to say that I am not impressed by the improvement in my academic acumen (baptism by fire works…). After all those classes, cases, presentations and exams that not only challenged but also bruised (and then some!) our aptitudes, it would be almost idiotic to ignore the academic benefit of the MBA program. SCMA’s Mod IV/VIII Trip to The Hershey Company

By Rachel Jones, MBA Class of 2012

On Friday April 15th, the SCMA visited The Hershey Company, in Hershey, PA.  For the first half of our trip, we met with several key supply chain employees and learned how the famous Hershey’s candies are made and delivered from start to finish.  We listened to individual presentations about Hershey’s planning and forecasting process as well as packaging, imports and exports, customer service, distribution and transportation.  We also watched a manufacturing video that showed how a Hershey Kiss is made.  Finally, we learned about the global aspect of Hershey’s business.  In all, we had a chance to speak with 10 supply chain employees.  All of us were able to ask many questions and actively participate in all the presentations.  Of course, we also had a chance to “sample” many of Hershey’s products. Minority MBA Association Hosts “Coffee Break” During Visitation Weekend

On Friday afternoon, April 8th, the Minority MBA Association had the great pleasure of hosting a “Diversity @ Smeal Coffee Break” as part of Visitation Weekend. Association members, as well as first and second year MBA students, gave admitted MBA candidates an inside look at our community by showcasing our dedication to diversity. Candid informal conversations could be heard throughout the commons as current students shared the importance of diversity not only here at Smeal, but also in the workplace.

We hope this event helped Visitation guests discover exactly how diverse Smeal is, and we look forward to welcoming the Class of 2013 into our community!
