MBA Finance Association on NYC Roadshow

On February 21, 2014, the MBA Finance Association went on a NYC Roadshow with 23 members.  We learned about the US Central Banking System at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, got to visit the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange, spoke directly to the President of the Bank of New York Mellon, and saw the closing bell at NASDAQ.

Here’s what the members said were the best part of the trip: Continue reading

Summer Internship at Dell- Mergers and Acquisitions IT

By Anshul Sharma, MBA Class of 2013

It was two months into Penn State Smeal MBA Program, and I was fortunate to have the opportunity to interview with Dell IT. As Dell is one of the best technology companies globally, and one I’ve always admired being an end user myself, I was thrilled. Then, within three months of starting my MBA program, I was one the lucky students to end up with the internship of my choice. I was EXCITED!! Continue reading

Greetings from the Real World! – Experiences from a Recent Graduate

By Bob Sanders, MBA Class of 2011

Greetings from the “real world!”  I have just completed my first rotation in the Carlisle Management Development Program (MDP) and I wanted to write a quick note to impress upon you the uniqueness and value of this opportunity.  While Carlisle is now seeking just its second class of the MDP, the commitment from all levels of management I’ve witnessed has been astonishing.  For example, the first day of orientation, the CEO, Dave Roberts took two hours out of his day to personally sit down with us and explain the business and his goals.  My main point of contact has been the President of our Food Services division and my assigned mentor is the President of the Continue reading

Reckitt Benckiser Summer Internship Experience

By Mehul Pathak, MBA Class of 2012

On a wonderful Wednesday afternoon of November 3, 2010, I received a phone call; a call that most first year MBAs eagerly wait for! It was a call from Reckitt Benckiser for a summer internship offer. Same old thought process, I am an international student, opportunities are scarce, remuneration is very lucrative etc. etc. and I accepted the offer.

Now as most of my classmates know, I am a super brand conscious person and my resume so far is a testimony of the same….BUT…. every time people/friends asked me where am I interning and I said Reckitt Benckiser, I used to get the same replay What? Continue reading

Corning Event

By Moulik Desai, MBA Class of 2012

It was an event jointly organized by the MBA Marketing and the MBA Supply Chain Association, for Corning Inc. – A company I knew very little about before I started to dig deeper. Also I felt quite uneasy in my chair to see a relaxed and laid back atmosphere for a corporate event, i.e. an information session/discussion involving someone from the corporate world, where the students are typically on their ‘A-games’. The dress code for such events is Business Professional, i.e. a formal business suit, for both men and ladies. But soon enough, the tone was set when James Steiner started his presentation on Corning’s products, initiatives and current issues. Although Jim was the Senior Vice Continue reading

Going for the Green: Climate Corps Fellow Aims to Change American Energy Statistics at Verizon

By Ryan Mallett, MBA Class of 2010

While millions of people spent the weekend watching PGA golfers go for the green at Pebble Beach, or World Cup players chase a soccer ball across the green in South Africa, I began a search for a different kind of green. You know – the kind of green that you put in your wallet. I recently began my EDF Climate Corps fellowship with Verizon in search of energy efficiency savings that could provide the kind of green we all understand. It is also the kind of green that adds to the planet’s bank account instead of draining it. Continue reading

The iPAD, and the Doors of Perception.

By Gonzalo Cayo, MBA Class of 2010

You’ve probably heard by now, haven’t you? Of course you have, the iPad, the new device consumers expected to solve every one of their problems, isn’t going to solve most of those problems. Thus, it will fail, right? Why else would such tech savvy websites (sarcasm to full!) such as FoxNews and CNN already be talking about how no one will buy one except Apple fanboys and the Tech elite? It will fail, they say, because it lacks a camera, won’t do Flash (the number one cause of web browser crashes, but more on that later), doesn’t have USB ports, and blah blah blah. Continue reading
