From GMAT to MBA – Cultivating the Right Thought Process.

By Anshul Sharma, MBA Class of 2013

If you’re an international prospective MBA student, you will find this blog quite valuable.

I graduated from Smeal College of Business, Penn State University in 2013. My journey to earn an MBA from a reputed MBA school in the US began in 2007. I had no clue where to start because I did not know anyone trying to pursue an MBA from a foreign destination. I was on my own. Continue reading

Celebrating Internship and Job Offers during a recent Smeal MBA Ball Drop.

By Srimaan Gurusamy, MBA Class of 2017

As an international student, career prospects were an important criteria for me to select a business school. During my research I found that a number of companies, in which I am interested, recruit international students at Smeal. Theses existing recruiting relationships are one of the reasons why I choose Smeal. My Continue reading

Networking – A Subtle Art

By Srimaan Gurusamy, MBA Class of 2017

I am an international student who came to the Smeal College of Business to explore new opportunities and get a broader view of the world. When I entered the MBA world, I got introduced to a new term. This term resounded in conversations with almost everyone I met. It seemed to be the predominant buzz word and I realized that it is very important for anyone who wants to pursue an MBA in the United States or elsewhere. And all this build up is for the word “NETWORKING.”

Family in Happy Valley

By Hao Wang, MBA Class of 2016

First of all, I want to express my greatest respect for those who accompany MBA students during their two years program. There are a lot of fun activities and of course many difficulties especially for international students’ family and partners. I just want to share a little bit about my experience with my family. Summer Internship Experience

By Sreekanth Boppana, MBA Class of 2015

This summer I worked at Sears Holding Corporation (SHC) at their headquarters in Chicago. I worked as an MBA intern in their inventory management department and I should say it was one of the best learning experiences I have had since I came to the US. I had a great learning experience because of the effort their leadership put into structuring the internship and the time they invested into mentoring their interns. I was assigned two projects during the internship and they gave me good exposure to their vast supply chain network and deep insights into the working of the retail industry.

Happy New Year and Welcome Back

This is my second consecutive year living in the United States.  Despite being so close to New York, I missed out on the celebrations at  Time Square New York, last year. I was not going to let it happen again. So, I and a couple of my classmates decided to drive to New York to celebrate the New Year this time around. It was a five hour drive, but we were able to make it fun, thanks to the very inspiring movie ‘Night at the Roxbury’. Continue reading

My Experience Adjusting to Life in the US

By Sreekanth Boppana, MBA Class of 2015

I came to the US on August 1st, which was twelve days prior to the start of MBA program as I wanted to settle down and get over jet lag before the start of classes.  I leased a house by the end of June as advised by the admission committee and having a house leased even before arriving in US made things easier to settle down.

The biggest challenge was to get adjusted to the food. I belong to the southern part of India and being a big foodie myself, I knew I couldn’t survive for long without the spicy Indian food. So I asked second year students about Indian stores and they informed me Continue reading

Service Immersion: Teaching under privileged children in India

By Harihara S. Chockalingam, MBA Class of 2013

Growing up back in my hometown, I have always noticed that not all children from that part of the world are as privileged as I was during my childhood. About a mile away from my home is ‘The school for the blind’. It was distressing to see these children struggle with their day-to-day lives since they cannot see the world as we do. Standing outside the fenced perimeter of the school and watching those children engage in games that develop their ability to manage their lives without being overly dependent on others, I used to feel thankful for the life that I have and realized that I take a lot of good things in my life for granted. Next stop is the White House?

By Mike Bassani, MBA Class of 2013

When I first arrived at Smeal I was thrilled with the diversity amongst the classes. Both the first and second year MBAs had varying and diverse backgrounds. I think most B-schools have a very strong diversity in academics and professional development, but here we have a very strong cultural component as well. It’s really allowed me to grow as a person and leader because understanding and working through any cultural differences is a huge advantage as I prepare for my summer internship (@Nike).
