Life as a Woman in the MBA Program

By Lauren Rizzo, MBA Class of 2015

All my life, I have surrounded myself with strong, impassioned, empowered women. My mother was a staunch supporter and protester in the second wave feminist movement and our home was always filled with conversations about equality and justice and a keen awareness of the deeply embedded societal pressures which converged to make the world I lived in. When I decided to return to school to acquire an MBA, I found myself looking at the gender breakdown of many MBA programs. I had a college friend Continue reading

On October 28th, members of the WMBA and WIB (Women in Business – Smeal’s Undergraduate Women’s Association) were given the opportunity to participate in a Live Stream Event with Sheryl Sandberg, the author of the highly-talked about book Lean In.  In this event, Sheryl spoke about the perceptual differences between men and women in the workplace, her personal story and what we can do to change these perceptual differences.  Overall, this event was a great way to spark the “Lean In” conversation here at Smeal!  The WMBA hopes to continue this conversation by encouraging everyone to read Sheryl’s book and hosting a book discussion post Winter break.
