About

Who are we?

WE ARE! the Penn State chapter of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES). Our chapter was founded in 2010 at Penn State’s University Park campus. Our mission is to advance all things solar at Penn State. Our parent organization is supported by more than 8,000 energy professionals and grassroots supporters. With the Penn State Chapter included, ASES has regional chapters in 40 states across the U.S.

Why are we here?

The need for renewable energy is clear. Fossil fuels are putting the U.S. economy and environment at risk. Energy costs are volatile. Pollution and climate change threaten our children’s future. Even the security of our nation is at risk as the U.S. continues to buy fuel from turbulent regions. The time for change is now.

We have numerous initiatives and annual events that we participate in.

National Conference

This is a significant annual event where every major player in the solar industry from across the continent, and several from around the world, come to display the latest and greatest in technical advances in the solar energy field. Over the past few years, we have presented numerous papers and developed our professional networks.

Solar Day of Tours

Every year we participate in American Solar Energy Society’s National Solar Tours day by planning a tour of locations in State College that have solar, both photovoltaic and solar thermal, systems. It is one of hundreds of tours sponsored by grassroots organizations and solar installers throughout the country that afford participants the direct perspectives of businesses, home owners and installers about the costs, processes and benefits of going solar.
