Project 6 – Neverending Concept and Execution

2021_mazzola_portfolio

For my Neverending visual portfolio, I went for a simple unity base. There were some issues with fonts transferring between the school Macs and my PC, but in the end it wasn’t really a problem.

Even though I still have a lot to learn, I think my digital art skills have improved a lot because of this class and I’m looking forward to incorporating them in future endeavors. 🙂

Project 4 Exquisite Corpse/Round Robin – Concept and Execution

2021_mazzola_excorpse_01_02_03 (1)This is my completed Round Robin project. I wasn’t sure how to make everything feel cohesive, but I played around with the filter options (mostly noise and glass) and this was the result. Ana’s design in the middle was really cool, I love how she continued the color scheme with hints of purple, orange, and green. After the remix, it sort of gives me an Adult Swim vibe. The bottom section definitely stands out, but Josh’s little Jack-o-lantern carrot is pretty neat. I probably could have done a better job on this but I think my groupmates did a great job!

Here’s the 8×9 cropped version of my original scan:

Project 5 – Variations largePrint Concept & Execution

2021_mazzola_largeprint.pdf

This project didn’t take me too long, but there was a bit of a delay in finding the image that I wanted because of the sizing requirements. I had a lot of fun with it! I love Jimi Hendrix and with his birthday coming up (it actually just passed, 11/27) I thought it’d be a nice tribute to him.

I mostly used Saturation/Hue in adjusting each individual image to make them unique. I used the lasso tool to trace out the jacket and edited them individually to add some more color and contrast. For the background, I found a really neat repeating image and organized them to look cohesive, and then I applied the ‘Glass’ setting in the Filter Gallery. I wanted the whole purple haze vibe (for obvious reasons).

In the end I didn’t want to tamper with it too much after this, I added a little bit of noise to each picture of Jimi and that’s pretty much it!

Project 3 – Elemental Mandala Concept/Execution & Sketch

This is my final version of the mandala project, and below is the geometry version and the original sketch:

This project took me forever to complete and I’m still not 100% satisfied, although I am proud of the final product. I don’t think I realized when making my initial structure with all the fog clouds and fire how tedious the coloring process would be. Needless to say, I’m glad it’s over, because my eyes are burning looking at it.

I decided to portray the elements of my zodiac big three, being fire, air, and water. The fire seems pretty obvious but I wasn’t sure how to interpret air in terms of color. I started off with lots of indigo and teal, but after I colored in the water, I realized how similar they looked. I opted for a rainbow palette instead, and hopefully it comes across that way.

Project 4 – Layer Collage Exercise

2021_mazzola_layercollage

Here’s my finished layer collage exercise. Definitely more confusing than the previous exercise, but still useful in getting more adjusted to Photoshop. There are more things to keep track of like color and the adjustment layers but I think with time I’ll get used to it. Wouldn’t be surprised if this thing popped up in my nightmares tonight lol.

mandalaColorRelativity Exercise

For this exercise I think I may have messed up the alignment (specifically in the bottom right quadrant – it could be my imagination but looking at the .jpg file, it doesn’t look centered). All in all though I thought the assignment was pretty straightforward and didn’t have a lot of trouble with it. I found it interesting how color works in terms of relativity and I’m excited to see how this exercise may enhance my mandala project in my use of color.
