7 September: Tarde de Cocinar

On this afternoon we decided to have a social bonding activity which consisted of cooking Arroz a la Cubana we cooked the recipe that Kelly’s host Mother Senora Olga shared with her which is one of the many ways to cook it.

The recipe below

Ingredients: (1 serving)

  • 1/4 c of uncooked rice.
  • 1/4 c of tomato sauce.
  • 1 egg
  • Optional banana / bacon/ ham


  1. Use twice as much water as rice and add a pinch of salt.
  2. Put in a pot and simmer and cover for approximately 18 mins or until rice cooked and water is absorbed.
  3. Fluff with fork. And set aside.
  4. If cooking any optionals: Cut banana in half long way and fry in olive oil to preference. Fry bacon and/or ham to preference. Set aside.
  5. In a small pot, put tomato sauce on medium heat.
  6. Once the sauce is simmering, crack in the egg.
  7. Cover the pot and cook for approximately 2 mins or until egg is cooked to preference.
  8. Serve rice in the shape of a volcano and top with tomato sauce & egg.
  9. Serve optionals on the side.
  10. ¡Buen provecho!

9 April: Formals

The meeting consisted of

  1. Introducing Maggie and Jeremy of Association of Students Abroad in Spain and beginning the combination of our club missions
  2. Hablamos sobre Formal con el Polish club which will be held at Chrome April 20 from 6-8 pm.
  3. Another Formal will be held at the Lion’s Den April 25 from 9:30- 11:30 pm with multiple clubs.

26 March: Tradition Night

The meeting consisted of

  1. Discussed  Noche de Cocina
  2.  Played a game of Kahoot which focused on traditions within the Spain culture. The game is found below.
  3. Then the president Emma went more in depth in the powerpoint about the traditions.
  4. Then treasurer (Kelly) and social media liaison (Jacqueline) attended An Exhibition of Who We Are on tuesday where they explained more information of other ethnic groups and played games exploring different cultures.

19 March: Noche de Cocina

This meeting consisted of

1.Cooking the recipe on the Tortilla de Patatas that Kelly’s (our treasurer)  host mother from Espana sent to her very graciously. The recipe is:

2. Then the making of the nonalcoholic Sangría.

The recipe is:

La Noche de Cocina was a night full of cooking while practicing our Spanish skills without trying to burn down the Globe Kitchen in Simmons.


12 March: Planning and Chinchón

This meeting consisted of

    1. Planing for tortilla de patatas night. Which consisted of planning what we would cook, the cost, and the location to be able to cook the patatas.  
    2. We played games such as  card game Chinchón.  The instructions to play this game are found in How to Play Chinchon
