A Letter from the Editors

The Spanish Immersion Club was founded after the pilot year of a Penn State summer program in Ronda, Spain (see background picture). After the program ended, campus alumni still wanted a place to practice the language and learn more about Spanish culture – to “bring Spain to Penn State,” as the website used to say. We want to first say thank you to these students. We would not be here without them. But we also want to be clear, as of today, that we’ve moved on.

Five years later, we have decided to adopt a broader written vision than ever before. The faculty, student officers, and I are here to gather a community of both hablantes nativos and Spanish language learners. We are here to create a place where people can learn and maintain the Spanish language while sharing about countries and communities de habla hispana here and around the world. We are here to promote respect among and between all ethnic and racial groups. We are here…but we are only five people or so.

We rely on our student members and participants to, well, really do much of anything. So we made this website just for you. Here, you can read (and critique) our mission statement, view our calendar, and answer any frequently asked questions for yourself. If all else fails, you can also find our contact information under the last tab. For unlimited information.

We look forward to hearing from you. Or better yet, seeing you at a meeting.

No prerequisites necessary.
