Funding Priorities: The Voice Foundation prioritizes projects which inform current understanding on how the voice works, and best practices for its treatment and care. To this end, the foundation provides grants for two types of projects: educational projects, and research projects. Educational projects have the purpose of providing scientists and the public with up-to-date information on how to care for the voice. These might include publications, symposia, workshops, or training programs. Research projects are wide in their scope, and can range in discipline between “physiology, biochemistry, genetics… anatomy, pathology, psychology, and neurolarngology.”
Types of Grants Funded: These are typically seed grants, considered modest in size and awarded on an ad hoc basis. Upon receiving the grant, it is expected that the research that is produced is submitted for publication in the Journal of Voice, and in the Foundation’s annual symposium.
* Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. The foundation’s Board of Directors meets four times yearly to discuss submitted proposals.
Eligibility: Concerns of eligibility are related to the institution which the grant will be awarded to; any individual within the institution may theoretically apply. Eligibility is determined by whether their qualifications meet the standards of the Voice Foundation’s Board of Directors. Educational institutions, public charities, and private foundations are all eligible.
Level of Funding Provided: Grants provided by the Voice Foundation are typically under $10,000; only rarely do they exceed $15,ooo. Funding is typically provided for a period of time under 12 months.
Examples of Grants Funded: I was unfortunately unable to find any specific projects which were funded by these grants. The information is not provided on their website; I have also searched on grants.gov, in the NIH directory, and in the CV’s of researchers who I know have published in the foundation’s journal, only to similarly find little information.
