Welcome to the Sound Perception and Room Acoustics Laboratory’s website! Here you will find information about SPRAL and our members, alumni, current projects, research facilities, publications, and current news.
For a short virtual tour of our lab facility – the AUralization and Reproduction of Acoustic Sound fields (AURAS) facility, check out this video.
About Us
SPRAL is a research laboratory out of the Graduate Program in Acoustics at The Pennsylvania State University. Our research team is led by Dr. Michelle Vigeant, and has historically consisted of both graduate and undergraduate members (although only graduate members currently). Most of our students are pursing a graduate degree in acoustics, but we have a wide range of different backgrounds, including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, signal processing, math, computer science, and physics.
As a research team, we focus on topics related to room acoustic measurement techniques, virtual acoustics, spherical array processing, the subjective impression of room acoustics, and impact of noise upon learning and performance. If you want to learn more about SPRAL, please check out our current and past members, projects, and publications, and feel free to contact us for more questions about our current research.
