Matthew Neal successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation this morning! His defense was well attended, including many of his family members and friends. The audience was treated to an array of breads (middle-class brioche, cinnamon rolls, and pane Siciliano) that he and his girlfriend, Natalie baked! Congratulations, Dr. Neal!
Matthew Neal, a Ph.D. Candidate in the Graduate Program in Acoustics at Penn State and SPRALite, will be presenting at the upcoming International Congress on Acoustics (ICA) meeting in Aachen, Germany in September 2019 and was selected to receive a Young Scientist Grant.
Zane Rusk, a Ph.D. student in the Architectural Engineering department has been awarded a 3-year PhD GAANN fellowship through a grant awarded to PSU’s AE department from the US Dept of Education. Zane will be using this fellowship to study spatial audio as applied to virtual building walk-throughs.
Nick Ortega, PhD Student in the Graduate Program in Acoustics, was awarded a Sloan Foundation scholarship to support his graduate studies. Nick’s research focuses on methods of measuring head related transfer functions (HRTFs) for use in spatial audio reproduction. In particular, finding new methods to extrapolate finer resolution HRTFs from a sparse measurement set.
SPRAL welcomes Zane Rusk, as a new acoustics Ph.D. student! Zane graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in May 2018. Just before joining SPRAL, Zane traveled to Taiwan for 10 days.
Welcome to Jonathan Broyles who joins SPRAL as a M.S. student in acoustics! Jonathan recently graduated in May 2018 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Clemson University. During this past summer, Jonathan worked as an intern at a structural engineering firm.
