Workforce Development

  • Expectations that drive deliverables
    • Clear and concise expectations
      • Direction that is valuable to the EE, clearly understood and manageable
      • Expectations that the EE can have a direct impact on affecting
      • Make sure the EE understands that they have as much responsibility in driving the deliverable as you do managing it
    • Consistent Deliberate Follow-up
      • Everyone wants to be “touched” (talked to, seen as important for your time, valuable for the work they do)
      • Course correct consistently and frequently when needed, praise direction and effort always
      • Empower EE to make their level of decision when and where needed, follow-up on the decision on whether they feel they succeeded or not
        • Get them comfortable with it, and it will become a habit
      • Methodically or tactfully engage when you see that your EE may be confronting a situation they may not be ready for
      • Consistently support your EE with the most important tasks and build a trusting bond
        • Shoveling WIP to get the shift started
        • Covering breaks when the line cant go down and they need a hand
        • Talking to individuals on behalf of you EE to instill trust, and empower you EE
      • Discipline/Correction and Praise should be the two most used follow-ups
        • Reframing failure for growth
          • Failing is growing
        • It all about EFFORT
          • You can run headstrong into a 3-foot-thick wall and put as much effort as possible, and will never get through it
          • Carefully placed effort, something to be said for “smarter not harder” This is “SMARTER & HARDER”
          • My more effort that is put into follow-ups, check-ins, and conversations that add value and direction
          • What drives you should also drive them because you’re following up, setting expectations, with correction and praise
          • Make things interesting and valuable to your EE
            • Using goals to spark competition, and expectations as a finish line
          • Rigorous not Ruthless
          • Leading is adding value to what we need to accomplish molecularly
            • Leadership is not personality
          • Make 4 agreements with yourself
            • Don’t take things personally
            • Don’t make assumptions
            • Try your best
            • Be impeccable with your word
          • You need to Genuinely Care
            • If people are not why you are leading, wrong seat
            • Instill what you have learned into others and EEs
            • Do WHATEVER you can to support and guide others to succeed, more than yourself
              • How can you succeed help others succeed
            • Have an indomitable will
          • Have a Purpose
            • What cause do you serve
            • Be on a mission with every step you take
              • Not sure of information, go find out
              • Need a break, use the time wisely
            • Come into work with a reason for why you are here
              • Collecting a paycheck or having a job is NOT a purpose
                • Having a cause beyond $$$
                  • $$$ is essential, not a cause
