- Make sure the EE understands that they have as much responsibility in driving the deliverable as you do managing it
- Consistent Deliberate Follow-up
- Everyone wants to be “touched” (talked to, seen as important for your time, valuable for the work they do)
- Course correct consistently and frequently when needed, praise direction and effort always
- Empower EE to make their level of decision when and where needed, follow-up on the decision on whether they feel they succeeded or not
- Get them comfortable with it, and it will become a habit
- Methodically or tactfully engage when you see that your EE may be confronting a situation they may not be ready for
- Consistently support your EE with the most important tasks and build a trusting bond
- Shoveling WIP to get the shift started
- Covering breaks when the line cant go down and they need a hand
- Talking to individuals on behalf of you EE to instill trust, and empower you EE
- Discipline/Correction and Praise should be the two most used follow-ups
- Reframing failure for growth
- It all about EFFORT
- You can run headstrong into a 3-foot-thick wall and put as much effort as possible, and will never get through it
- Carefully placed effort, something to be said for “smarter not harder” This is “SMARTER & HARDER”
- My more effort that is put into follow-ups, check-ins, and conversations that add value and direction
- What drives you should also drive them because you’re following up, setting expectations, with correction and praise
- Make things interesting and valuable to your EE
- Using goals to spark competition, and expectations as a finish line
- Rigorous not Ruthless
- Leading is adding value to what we need to accomplish molecularly
- Leadership is not personality
- Make 4 agreements with yourself
- Don’t take things personally
- Don’t make assumptions
- Try your best
- Be impeccable with your word
- You need to Genuinely Care
- If people are not why you are leading, wrong seat
- Instill what you have learned into others and EEs
- Do WHATEVER you can to support and guide others to succeed, more than yourself
- How can you succeed help others succeed
- Have an indomitable will
- Have a Purpose
- What cause do you serve
- Be on a mission with every step you take
- Not sure of information, go find out
- Need a break, use the time wisely
- Come into work with a reason for why you are here
- Collecting a paycheck or having a job is NOT a purpose
- Having a cause beyond $$$
- $$$ is essential, not a cause
