I gave a little taste of my spiritual connection to earth and space in my stargazing post, stopping myself from really going into it at the time. Then it was mostly because I was nearing the word requirement, as well as the end of the story I wanted to tell. However, the past few days have provided me with many concepts that I wish to communicate to the reader.
What connection do you have with the world around you? Have you ever questioned where the world came from, and where its contents may go next? How are we sustained as a body in space, and how can we use this knowledge to lift and grow ourselves?
I know these questions seem like a lot, after all, why are we talking about all this earth “stuff” in a blog about space?
As I said two weeks ago, we are all made up of the same stardust. Thinking of the Big Bang, we see that everything that exists within our universe was created at that moment. Many steps later and you have good old earth, but it all originated from one singular moment in time that decided it needed to let it all out.
It’s a bit jarring to think about, but we are truly, truly, connected to every molecule in our known existence. When you start to think about it like this, it’s easy to get lost in thought about the cycles of the earth, our purpose, and our place in the universe.
I believe a really great way to deal with these thoughts is to meditate, and connect with the nature, the space around you. This is best practiced outside, preferably on a sunny or pleasant day. Settling down, there are a few things you can do. I personally start by focusing in on my breath, what it’s doing for my body, and how it’s being processed and distributed.
From this simple beginning, you might start to question what the air smells like. Lush, green, smooth– plants. From here you might explore the flora, whether that be in your mind or by observing it around you. Your mind may drift to how plants are sustained, the sun!
And here we are, back in space, reminded of the everlasting connection we have with our sun and the energy it provides us. Thinking about the sun might bring attention to how it feels on your skin, how you can almost reach within the air and feel the difference, even in different spaces.
We are reminded that space isn’t this vast vacuum that we can only get lost in on a dark night under certain conditions (ref. Stargazing for Dummies), but something we can connect with at any time, anywhere. The reason we have seasons, tides, air currents, weather, and the list could go on, is all due to our place in the universe as a planet in space. Provided you give it a chance, you can understand these connections, given a questioning mind, one open to learning new ways of knowing.
This entry is very different from anything else I’ve written for this blog. Earlier I said I’ve been provided with many concepts these past few days, this is from a sickness that honestly laid me flat on my a**. The appreciation you gain for basic life functions is beyond what we ever practice in normal life.
I suppose the point is to become mindful of these connections, delve within yourself to grow that appreciation, and extend it to the world around you, as well as the space we inhabit. Seeing where this takes us in our relationship with others, the environment, and ourselves is the fun part, and a journey I truly recommend taking.
Thank you so much for reading, see you next week!
