Officer Descriptions

The President is the spokesperson for the Penn State Statistics Club, and will be the student leader of Mu Sigma Rho. As such, the President must also be a member of Mu Sigma Rho.  The office of President must be filled by a previous officer whenever possible.  The President presides at all meetings.  It is the duty of the President to delegate duties to other club members, to motivate others to become involved in the club, and to perform all actions necessary from the Penn State Student Organizations Office.

In addition to other duties that may be delegated by the President, the Vice-President shall serve as President when the President is unable to do so.  In addition, the Vice-President shall contact the Statistics Department prior to each meeting and arrange for a room to be reserved and, whenever possible, for food and beverages to be served.

In addition to other duties that may be delegated by the President, the Treasurer shall be charged with handling all organizational finances, including tracking of the expenditures and fundraising, managing the budget, and managing all other financial responsibilities with the Penn State Student Organizations Office.

In addition to other duties that may be delegated by the President, the Secretary shall take note of all meeting events, post these minutes to the club’s website, and email meeting minutes to club members and other students in a timely matter.  At the beginning of every meeting the Secretary should briefly review the events which took place at the prior meeting.  The Secretary will also track the attendance of members throughout the semester.

In addition to other duties that may be delegated by the President, the Event Planner shall plan social and professional events for the club. They will make sure to inform the webmaster of the dates and times of these events so that the Webmaster may update the site’s calendar accordingly. Furthermore, they must work with the President and the Statistics faculty to plan the bi-annual Statistics Department Picnics.

In addition to other duties that may be delegated by the President, the Webmaster shall be responsible for updating the club webpage and any social media pages on at least a bi-weekly basis, or as needed to maintain and keep current.  The Webmaster shall serve as the Secretary (in regards to keeping meeting minutes) when the Secretary is unable to do so.

Additionally, it is the collective duty of ALL officers to be active in developing ideas and plans for the club and its members.  The advisor shall help to the best of his or her ability to fulfill the club’s wishes, but it is ultimately the responsibility of the officers to develop the ideas and ensure that these plans come to fruition, and that the club remains a viable entity at Penn State.  This requires open and constant communication between the officers, as well as amongst the club as a whole.
