Graduate Writing Center – The GWC offers one-to-one consultations that are most useful to writers seeking ongoing support, or consultations on shorter documents. Sessions focus on principles of composition and strategies for enabling writers to independently improve their writing rather than “correcting” papers.  They also provide four writing workshops per semester that are open to the entire graduate student community.

Healthy Penn State – Healthy Penn State (HPS) is an initiative led by University Health Services. Healthy Penn State is a holistic approach to promoting well-being that encourages the development and maintenance of a sound body, mind, and spirit. The aim is to improve the academic success of students by enhancing behaviors that promote health and reduce the incidence of behaviors that negatively impact the welfare of students. They also host FREE YOGA during the week!

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance – The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) is a nationwide, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) sponsored volunteer program that provides free tax preparation services to low income, special needs and senior citizen taxpayers. The IRS requires that all VITA volunteers complete training and pass a certification test in order to provide tax preparation services to taxpayers. Penn State University’s VITA program targets individuals and families whose income falls within the eligibility guidelines for the Earned Income Tax Credit–up to $51,500 for the 2013 tax year. Taxpayers get help filing returns electronically at no cost. In addition, taxpayers receive financial information relevant to their situation and learn easy to implement steps to improve the financial stability and security for themselves and/or families.

On Campus Groups

Black Graduate Student Association

As the organization for graduate students of color, the Black Graduate Student Association provides its members with opportunities for professional development, networking, fellowship, involvement and more by sponsoring social mixers, information sessions, developmental workshops and conferences, community service activities and cultural celebrations.

Graduate & Professional Student Association

The primary goals of the Graduate and Professional Student Association are to represent and support the interests of the University’s current and future graduate and professional student community by supporting scholarly activities and providing leadership, service, and social opportunities. GPSA exists to enrich the experience of the University’s graduate and professional students, all of whom are members of GPSA. GPSA accomplishes these objectives by responding to the changing collective needs of our primary constituents – graduate and professional students.

Graduate Women in Science

We are an interdisciplinary society of scientists who encourage and support women to enter and achieve success in science through full participation in their scientific research and its applications; in the development and advancement of women; in the integration of their careers, personal goals, and society’s needs; and by professional networking and mutual inspiration.

Indian Graduate Student Association

The Indian Graduate Students Association (IGSA) at Penn State was formed in the Spring of the year 2003. IGSA was formed with objectives to act as a platform and integrate Indian graduate students and post doctoral scholars throughout the university, and to behave as a global group at Penn State. IGSA holds events throughout the academic year to encourage participation from all students of the community and thus help in showcasing the Indian culture to American and various International Communities at Penn State. The organization also encourages, supports and collaborates with other organizations such as the Penn State Vedic Society, Hindu Student Council, Geet, Natya, Penn State Cricket club and others in their activities.

PSU Science Outreach and Science Engagement

Mission: To create and implement research-supported and faculty-written programs, services, and experiences that excite and engage Penn State students, thus impacting and inspiring K-12 students, educators and partnering community members in the STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

The Eberly College of Science Outreach Office helps organize, implement, direct, and find funding for multiple educational programs for families, K-12 students and teachers, the general public, and special audiences.

Whether you are a faculty member looking for help in writing your broader impacts or education and outreach portion of a grant, a teacher searching for exciting and interactive workshops for continuing education, a student looking for a way to get involved, a parent looking for quality science instruction for your child, or someone with a passing interest in science, the Outreach Office can find or develop a program that meets your needs.
