Paper 1 Possibilities

One idea I had for paper 1 was to do an Axe Body Wash commercial. The commercials done by Axe try and persuade teenagers and young men to buy their products so they can smell nice and get the ladies. In the specific commercial I am thinking of a young man puts on his Axe Body Wash and then is chased down the street by a pack of young, desirable, women. This ad appeals mainly to logos and ethos, playing on the emotions and logic that the ad brings. The emotion that the ad brings is humor which interests and hooks the viewer into the product. The ad then uses the logic that if one uses Axe Body Wash women will want them.

Another idea I had was the interracial Cheerios commercial. This ad was recently deemed controversial by many people over the internet because it used an interracial family in the advertisement. I believe that having an interracial family really brings a lot of ethos to the table. It shows that no matter who you are; black, white, male, female, young, old, everyone loves Cheerios. It also uses the classic Cheerios logos that if you eat Cheerios you will have a happy heart and lower cholesterol therefore helping one live healthy and for longer.

Introduction

As you can probably tell by the banner above, I have chosen my passion blog topic to be men’s fashion. That is a photo from a Saint Laurent runway show and lucky for you I will not be discussing high fashion like that in this blog. Instead I will focus on clothing that the average college student can wear and more importantly afford. I haven’t always liked clothing, back in middle school I did not care at all how I dressed, I would wear shorts and a t-shirt every single day. As I started to get into collecting sneakers I learned more and more about clothing and fashion from the blogs that I frequented every day. High school was when I really found my style. I have never really liked the word fashion, I feel that it is too feminine. When a guy says they’re into fashion I feel as though they get judged for it when in reality most men care about what they wear and are always trying to dress nicely. Style is what I believe fashion is all about, finding a look that fits you and one that you are perfectly comfortable with. In middle school there was this kid, his name was Brandon George, and he wore black every single day of school. And when I say every day I mean head to toe, black shoes, black socks, black jeans, black shirt, and black jacket. Every day. A lot of kids had a problem with this for some odd reason and always questioned and made fun of Brandon for wearing what he did. Even at the time when I knew nothing about clothing I had no problem with what he wore because it was his choice and as long as he liked what he was wearing that was fine with me. Never let anyone tell you that what you’re wearing doesn’t look good or isn’t the right thing to wear or whatever. If you decided to put certain clothes on you obviously did so for a reason and that was your choice. Clothes are a means of expression, they can say what we like and dislike or how we’re feeling on a certain day. Some people don’t care what they wear or how they dress and that’s perfectly fine, the only thing that matters is that they feel good about whatever they have on.

Penn State Fashion Blog

The other idea for a blog was to do a men’s Penn State fashion blog. I am very into outerwear and street wear mainly. I would love to give advice on some ways you can dress warm but still fashionable while relaxing around campus, going to class, and of course going out on the weekends. I know a lot about the sneaker culture and am knowledgeable in Nike SB’s, Air Jordan’s, and running shoes. One section of my blog I could devote to taking photos of random people I see around campus and document their certain style or the fresh kicks they had on that day. I believe I could make a really great blog with this idea and I am very passionate about the clothes I wear, just not usually at 11am in the morning.

Hockey Blog

One idea I had for a blog was to follow my favorite NHL team, the Washington Capitals, and cover the team as they make their way towards the playoffs. I would be able to watch the games every night on my laptop using a website I found. I could update the blog with stats and summaries of the games as well as player news on current injuries and who is being brought up from the minors. I am a frequent user of Jasper’s Rink, the main Capital’s blog for fans, and this seems like a fun good idea for a blog.
