What are Puppy Mills?

Puppy Mills are essentially dog producing factories. They basically produce mass amounts of dogs with no regard for the lives or welfare of the mothers and fathers or puppies, breeding for quantity, not quality. The main goal of these mills is to make a profit from the dogs. These mills typically sell to pet shop owners and through the internet. Many people are not aware that their dog comes from a puppy mill because pet stores often say that they get their dogs from “licensed USDA breeders” or “local breeders.” However, this is mostly just to provide the buyer with a false sense of security about where their dog is coming from. In actuality, statements like this usually mean that the dog is coming from a puppy mill. Real breeders typically only breed one type of dog, so they can really get to know that breed and understand what they need to be healthy and happy. However, puppy mills breed up to seventy types of dogs, meaning that they have absolutely no regard for what the dog may want, need, or even how to take care of them in general.

:(The dogs are kept in inhumane conditions, with cages that injure their feet and legs, and are often exposed to harsh climates or are forced to remain indoors their entire life, there are even reports of dogs scared of things such as grass just because they have never been exposed to it before.

Within puppy mills, dogs may contract health problems such as, epilepsy, heart disease, kidney disease, musculoskeletal disorders, endocrine disorders, blood disorders, deafness, eye problems, and respiratory disorders, because of the harsh conditions they are exposed to.
