The United Way improves communities and assists those in need by mobilizing volunteers and providing financial support to a variety of health and human service agencies within each organization’s region. The Centre County United Way, in particular, focuses its resources on partner agencies that seek to improve the education, financial stability, and health of local residents. The core of the United Way’s support comes from workplace, corporate, and individual giving. All funds raised are distributed based on the outcome of a systematic review of each partner agency’s application.
In 2016, over 35% of the total Centre County United Way dollars raised came from University employees through salary withholding and proceeds from special events.
The Student Affairs United Way Committee is one part of the larger whole that makes up the Penn State network of support for the United Way. The committee is tasked with not only distributing correspondence regarding the annual salary withholding campaign to staff within Student Affairs but also with providing opportunities to raise additional funds in a way that inspires giving while building a sense of community among Student Affairs employees and work units.
