Throughout the year, you will have several opportunities to get involved. Although no firm dates are set for the 2017-2018 academic year, below is a list of planned events.
Letter Campaign: November, Date TBD
Prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, e-mails and letters will be distributed encouraging employees to participate in a salary-withholding giving program. Deductions can be as small as $5 and can occur on a one-time or per-paycheck basis.
Gardners Chocolate Fundraiser: November 24-December 21
From the week of Thanksgiving until Winter Break, Gardners chocolate bars will be sold at various locations on campus. Just in time for the holiday season, the bars are sold at $2 a piece and make great stocking stuffers or last-minute and hostess gifts.
Trivia Lunch: March, Date TBD
Teams consisting of six to eight Student Affairs employees compete in a fun-filled game of Trivia while enjoying a catered lunch. There is a minimum per-team entry fee, but teams are encouraged to raise additional funds as all profits benefit the United Way. Prizes are given to teams (and their members) that win the trivia contest and that raise the most funds.
Trash to Treasure Sorting: May, Date TBD
As part of the Student Affairs Staff Development Day, those able to spend an afternoon doing a service project have the option to help sort items for the Trash to Treasure sale, which is sponsored by OPP and benefits the Centre County United Way. Additionally, there are many wonderful and worthy service opportunities on this day, and all Student Affairs employees who are able to do so are encouraged to sign up for one of them.
Trash to Treasure Sale: June, Date TBD
Usually held the first Saturday in June, Trash to Treasure is a one-day yard sale held by OPP that sells new and gently used items from students living in residence halls as well as unclaimed student property. Items for sale include furniture, rugs, household items, cleaning supplies, and clothing. The event benefits the Centre County United Way as well as helps protect the environment by reducing the amount of waste sent to the landfill.
