A few days ago we visited the Wat Pho Temple located in Bangkok known for its reclining Buddha. This temple is the largest temple in the city and is famed for its traditional Thai massages. It is also known to be the top school of massages in Thailand.
In Thailand there are around 30,000 Buddhist temples. Temples offer a place for Thais to celebrate, worship, and can even act as a place of congregation for locals. Monks also reside at these temples.
Although there are no laws enforcing religion, the most common religion in Thailand is Buddhism. About 95% of the Thai population practice Theravada Buddhism and this way of life permeates within the culture. After speaking to Professor Passakorn and Kasetsart University students, I learned how Thai boys are required to learn how to become a monk to receive good karma. However, most of the Thai boys do not complete monk training and only a select few have what it takes to actually become a monk.
The architecture and the vibrant colors are eye catching for visitors like ourselves. We had a blast exploring Wat Pho Temple, learning a little more about Thai culture, and of course taking a few pictures to remember this incredible experience.
