About

I am learning how we learn.
My research interests are in inclusive education and in using technology and design for all. Specifically, I am working with Dr Simon Hooper on the Avenue PM software suite that aims to help teachers in the literary progress of kids who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH).

Currently, I am a PhD student in the Learning, Design and Technology (LDT) program at the Department of Learning and Performance Systems, College of Education, Pennsylvania State College – University Park.

In a previous life, I was an experience design strategist… I was a behavioral researcher and designer with a focus on people – customers and employees. I have an MS in Human Factors, an interdisciplinary program in industrial engineering and psychology, from Purdue University.

I am primarily interested in human experiences, human engagement and in creating happy people in society. The intent is always to create simple, delightful experiences that people love and empower societies because what is good for people is good for business… is good for society.

I focused on new products and services with work experience in over 30 countries in US, Asia-Pacific and Europe and have publications internationally. Many of my products and services have been recognized by or as IDSA Awards, Apple Hall of Fame App, #1 Android Apps, etc. and many have become best-selling products globally in over 65 countries.

Outside of work, I look for new perspectives and enjoy exploring cultures & countries.

What’s an experience design strategist?

An article by Paul Bryan, in which I was quoted might be useful…
Paul Bryan has been instrumental in defining the field and now regularly hosts fantastic experience design conferences and workshops under the banner, UXSTRAT.

You can also see my profile at Grouper Labs, Purdue University where Dr. Barrett S. Caldwell was kind enough to be my mentor and advise my master’s dissertation. I worked primarily on the project, “Information Flow Modeling in Expert Communities,” where we worked on advising, sharing, problem-solving and learning modules as well researched group performance in distributed expertise.

My master’s thesis, related to advising and sharing, was on new product development for engagement and growth in social networks (group performance) with distributed expertise, based on predictive modelling & discrete time-based stochastic simulations using qualitative and quantitative user research data collected while designing and curating online communities.

My industry experience has been largely related to problem-solving.
And, here I am, trying to learn learning in the learning sciences.
