Re-Mediation Project: Jennie Finch
For project five, I chose to re-mediate my evaluation paper on the difficulty of softball. I chose to do a profile on Jennie Finch because I thought focusing on one amazing softball player would help the audience better contextualize and understand the importance of female sports. The medium I decided to use was a Prezi because I wanted to work with a new medium and I felt an online presentation would best represent my ideas. My target audience is sports fans and my purpose is to inform them about this inspirational softball player. In a world where male sports are more dominate, I feel it is crucial that we give female athletes appreciation. I utilized engaging visuals, logical appeals, and a thoughtful organization to grab my readers attention.
Within my Prezi, I incorporated engaging visuals. I chose a simple background of a softball to illustrate the basic idea of my presentation. Weaved through the presentation I included many pictures of Jennie Finch herself and some aspects of her life. These pictures are able to gain my readers attention and keep it. Instead of looking at only boring words the entire presentation, the audience can take breaks to view these visuals. The visuals are relevant and typically are in relation to the previous slide. These visuals put my words into action and further demonstrate what simple text cannot.
In addition to visuals, I included numerous logical appeals. Within the presentation, I added in many facts, such as in Jennie’s sophomore year of college she was named National Fastpitch Coaches Association First Team All-American and First Team All-Pac 10. These facts were the sole basis of my entire presentation. I relied heavily on my logos to demonstrate Jennie’s success in softball. It would be hard for an audience not to believe hard statistics and awards she has received. These facts thoroughly helped achieve my purpose and were really useful in describing how amazing Finch is at softball.
Lastly, I thoughtfully organized the presentation so the information flowed. I began with a basic overview of who Finch is. I progressed through my Prezi in the order of her life. Starting with her childhood, high school career, and then moving into her college career and her time spent in the Olympics. I arranged it in this way so my readers wouldn’t get confused. This progression makes sense logically and allows the readers to focus more on the evidence I propose. The simple flow of my presentation was very effective in keeping my readers attention.
Softball has been a very large part of my life and I wish more people would acknowledge the sport. Jennie Finch is a role model and inspiration to young softball players. She set a standard that these girls look up to and she teaches them to never give up on their dreams. Finch is an amazing softball player who deserves more appreciation. Within my profile of Finch, I utilized engaging visuals, logical appeals, and a thoughtful organization to achieve my purpose.
