Graduate student positions are available in our laboratory to study epigenetic chromatin enzymes associated with human cancers. We are particularly interested in elucidating how these biomedically important enzymes engage their nucleosome substrates. Our projects use a multidisciplinary approach combining biochemical and structural biology (cryoEM and/or crystallography) studies of chromatin complexes. No prior structural biology experience is needed.
Graduate students in our laboratory have the opportunity to participate in the NIH-sponsored Eukaryotic Gene Regulation Training Program. Our graduate students are also important members of the Penn State Center for Eukayotic Gene Regulation. The Center is a dynamic and highly collaborative environment which includes the groups of Drs. Jean-Paul Armache, Lu Bai, David Gilmour, Scott Lindner, Manuel Llinás, Shaun Mahony, Joe Reese, Scott Showalter and Song Tan, each with research programs targeted at understanding the molecular basis for gene regulation on chromatin templates.
