What Are Appointment Groups in Canvas?
Appointment groups are a type of event that you can create in the Course Calendar. It allows you to create a series of reservable time slots (duration customizable).
Why You Should Consider Using This Tool
The tool makes the process of students signing up for a series of time slots much easier than passing around a sign-up sheet in class or using an external tool. Additionally, the time slot will populate in the Student To-Do list, and will appear in a tool (Canvas) that students are already likely to be using for the course materials.
Some possible uses for the Appointment Group tool:
- Student Conferences
- Office Hour Sign-ups
- Mid-Semester Check-Ins
- Group Presentation Scheduling
Feature Highlight: Group Sign-Ups
If you’ve created Groups in your Canvas course, you can set the Appointment Groups for group signups, meaning that a student can sign up the group they’re part of (i.e. for an end of semester group presentation, or a weekly group presentation).
Feature Highlight: Reminder Messages
You can also click an appointment group after it is created to message:
- All students,
- All students who have signed up for an appointment slot already, and
- All students who have not signed up for an appointment slot yet.
