Planned Upgrade to FourWinds digital signage

We will be upgrading the FourWinds software on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 3pm.   Upgrading is a 3-step process that we will do for you.

1. Upgrade the Signage Network database.  This takes about 5 minutes.

2. Upgrade the Content Manager client software.  This is the software you use to manage and schedule the content from your desktop.  We will push this software and it will take between 5 minutes to 2 hours.

3. Upgrade the Content Player software. This is the software on the signage players.  This is the computer actually running your content that is directly connected to the large screen monitor.  We have not upgraded this software yet, but the vendor assures us that it only take 5-10 minutes for each player.

We fully expect that we won’t have any issues, but we are asking to see whether you can “deploy” any content before Friday for this weekend…..just in case.

Please let us know if this presents a problem….otherwise, we will begin the upgrade process at 3pm on Thursday.  The software upgrade does not require a reboot, so you probably won’t even know when it is done.  Please share this with your other signage colleagues.

We will post this maintenance upgrade and an update to our blog athttp://studentaffairsblogs.psu.edu/technology

Student Affairs UCS Project Kickoff

The Student Affairs UCS Project Kickoff is tomorrow, June 13, 2012, from 10-11am at 205 Student Health Center.  This is the first meeting that will include the unit liaisons and we are expecting a total attendance of 28 staff.  This includes some of the technical project team and several ITS Consultants working on the project.  The agenda for the meeting will include introductions, purpose of the liaison project team, discussion about the various project phases and next steps.  Lastly, we will have a Q&A session.  Any questions that we cannot answer will be researched and answers will delivered via the project wiki and announced from this same blog site.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the kickoff meeting.

New Penn State Marks with ‘Student Affairs’

Student Affairs Colleagues-

As we indicated a few weeks ago, new Penn State Marks with ‘Student Affairs’ are now available for use. Please note that the Marks are now located in a new, easy-access location on ‘Division Shared’:

S:Penn State Marks

We have also simplified how the Marks are organized to make it easier to access the version you need. ‘S:Penn State Marks’ contains the following folders:

‘eps_for_InDesign’ – these Marks are for use in Adobe InDesign

‘tif_for_Word_etc’ – these Marks are for use in Word and other Microsoft applications (Publisher, Powerpoint, etc.)

‘Web_only’ – these Marks are for Web use only and cannot be used in print publications (quality will be too low for printing)

Please begin transitioning your old ‘Division of Student Affairs’ Marks now in your legacy publications and begin using these Marks for any new publications.

On a related note, we will be transitioning unit website headers to ‘Student Affairs’ over the next few weeks.

Thank you

Additional ListServ issues

This came in from ITS Alerts at 4:10pm.

Listserv had a hardware failure at 12:30 today with one of its adapters that accesses disk. We replaced the failing adapter, but the replacement was bad. We then were able to get another adapter and that one is functioning normally. Listserv was back in operation as of 3:05 today. It is currently catching up with all the e-mail that has been queued. We will leave this alert open until Listserv is caught back up.

For more information, please contact ITS Help Desk ( helpdesk@psu.edu ).
