First Feeling of Badassery

Any hack-and-slash game worth its weight always has those moments that make you feel like a badass. A cool-looking combo, beating a boss with a sliver of health, etc.

This was the first real moment in this game where I felt like I did something substantial.

A couple in-game mechanics were consciously applied here, especially towards the end. The first is the downward slam. The first one I screw up on because I have a tendency to press the attack button before I finish the thumbstick motion. It’s the same problem I have when attempting special moves in a fighting game.

The next one is the dash. The dash, in any game, is always a great defensive option that also has offensive properties. You avoid hit/block stun and reposition quickly for a better advantage. Here I break the big skelly-boy’s super armor, which is that yellow barrier covering him, and then dash behind him to light him up with quick attacks. This maneuver sets up the end-combo.

After giving the big skelly a knockback, I dash up with a move that kicks downed enemies into the air. I follow up with an upward motion move that launches me into the air with him. This allows me to hit both the big boy and the skelly-archer on the platform above.

The Crimson Mass, the large-bladed sword, has very good AOE. Most of its moves, if not all of them, hit enemies in front of you as well as behind you. A couple of mid-air swings  shatters both skeletons along with the extra soul orb. I then collect all the souls and run straight into a barrier like a BOSS!
