Behrend Men’s Tennis Soars Past Pitt-Greensburg, Starts Off on the Right Foot in AMCC Opener

The Penn State Behrend Men’s Tennis team started off strong in the AMCC standings as they beat Pitt-Greensburg 9-0 on Sunday, March 24 in their first AMCC matchup of the season, at Westwood Racquet Club. The winning match improved Behrend’s overall match to 4-4. 

There were several key moments in the match that led Behrend to their success, and Behrend only gave up three sets of points in the three doubles matches.

Jonathan Laier, of Lansing, MI, and Akash Sangha, of Minton, Ontario, only gave one point during the No. 1 doubles, and won 8-1. Owen Sinnott, of Erie, PA, and Aidan Piazza, of Fairvirw, PA, were able to dominate their opponents during the No. 2 doubles.

In addition, Luke Vunora, of Natrona Heights, PA, and William Thomas, of Greensburg, PA, were able to complete their doubles matches with a decision of 8-2.

All six Behrend tennis players won their singles matches to finish the evening, Laier, Sangha, and Piazza logged the same scores in their singles as well.

Laier, competing at No. 1 singles, accomplished a 6-1, 6-0 victory, and Sangha was able to score a victory of 6-0, 6-1, during No. 2 doubles matches. Piazza finished his sing;les match with a score of 6-1, 6-0.
