The moment that fans of the popular Netflix show “Bridgerton” have arrived is the season three trailer. The trailer was revealed to be released on April 11 on the streaming platform Instagram during a video that was promoting the show on Wednesday, April 10. As fans already know, the trailer always arrives a little over a month before the release date of the season. They have been using this tactic since season one.

Anyway, onto the trailer; it is about 2 minutes and 47 seconds long. Season 3 is told to be the love story between Colin Bridgerton, the third Bridgerton son, and Penelope Featherington, the third Featherington daughter, the best friend of Eloise Bridgerton, and the friend of Colin Bridgerton. It starts with two footmen moving the throne into the middle of a floor. This is Queen Charlotte’s throne and is probably for the scene when Francesca Bridgerton makes her society debut and has to walk in front of the Queen so she can take a look at all of the new debuts to decide who will be the diamond of the season that year. I bet that it will be Franchesa, the third Bridgerton sister but the sixth Bridgerton child. Then, it shows some glasses and a group of men and women moving apart in a dance-like motion, which is believed to be one of the ballroom scenes.

The next clip is of the back of a carriage with the back of the man who is inside that carriage. The character in the carriage has to be Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton, since later in the trailer, he is wearing the same jacket as the man in the carriage has on. Colin must be coming back from his travels around the world during this scene. There is a Lady Whistledown voiceover, voiced by Julie Andrews (insert squeal here), throughout the trailer, along with obviously the voices of the characters in certain scenes.

After we see the carriage, we see Miss Penelope Featherington, played by Nichola Coulton, or as fans know her, Lady Whistledown. The trailer does show Francesa debuting in society in front of the Queen. Queen Charlotte looks impressed by her, so maybe she will be this season’s diamond. Netflix might have thrown this short 2-second clip into the trailer to suggest that she will be the diamond of the season. But even though she could be the diamond, this season is focused on the love story between her brother Colin and his friend Penelope. Then we see Anthony and Kate, who were the focus of season 2’s love story. It seems like they are enjoying married life, but there will probably be trouble brewing, knowing that it is a Netflix show.

The trailer shows some more characters, like Will and his wife Alice, who appear to be looking at some sort of letter. Could they be winning titles this season? I sure hope so. After all, Will, being the amazing character that he is, warned Colin about Lord Featherington last season and his scam. He also opened up a bar that welcomes everyone, no matter their social status. So, I am hopeful that the letter is from the Queen and that they are finally getting titles this season.

Next, it shows Elosie, and oh boy, she is now friends with the devil Cressida Cowper. After last season and Eloise finding out that Penelope is Lady Whistledown, she is still mad at her, and they are no longer friends. But does she have to be friends with Cressida, the same girl who purposely spilled a drink down Penelope’s dress in hopes of getting Colin’s attention? Eloise, you can do better than her. Just by the looks on Penelope’s face in that scene, I have hopes that Eloise and she will be friends by the end of the season, and Colin might just have something to do with that.

The trailer then shows a montage of Penelope’s life at home while she is getting fitted for a dress. Both of her sisters seem to be either married or courting someone. She says that she can no longer live at home and that “I must take a husband.” I mean, we know it is her love story, but can you blame her for wanting to leave her home? Her mother is awful to her, and her sisters are as well when they do pay attention to her. The modest asks her if she has any suitors in mind. This is when we get another glimpse of Colin as he is picking up a glove that a woman has dropped. He kisses her hand, and it shows his family being surprised that he is home. I have a feeling, just based on what has already been shown in the trailer, that he shows up to Francesca’s society debut, and his family is surprised that he has come home so early.

Then comes one of my favorite moments from the trailer. Let’s unpack this: Colin is shown in a carriage with his brothers as he is shirtless, and he seems to be changing into more suitable attire for an event that they are going to. I am going to say this again: probably Francesca’s society debut. But the man is shirtless and he is looking fine! Those abs on Colin Bridgerton have so much to talk about. But back to the trailer, it shows Penelope seeing Colin for the first time after he had told a bunch of the ton in public that he would never court her. Can we say that is just plain rude? You never say that about a woman, especially one who lacks self-confidence like Penelope, by which I mean relatable.

It shows Penelope standing over to the side as everyone else dances, which just shows the metaphor of her being a wallflower that is going to bloom throughout this season. Francesca looks very uncomfortable while she is dancing. Could someone help the poor girl? Do not leave her stranded on that dance floor when she clearly does not want to be. During this montage of moments, Penelope says one of the best lines in the trailer: “It seems as though every Bridgerton was born to attract notice. For some of us, the notice is very slight.” Come on, Queen! You tell Colin about not being noticed.

There is a clip of a scene in the trailer that will be detrimental to the rest of the season. It shows Colin telling her if you want a husband, then let me help you because they are friends. He grabs her hand to shake, and it gets this look on his face like he loves her but does not realize what his feelings are yet. This marks the beginning of the love story.

He takes her to see her skills at flirting and talking to the men of the ton. She is so awkward; it is relatable. Colin’s face says it all during that small glimpse. He is looking at her with love, but it seems like we need to work on your flirting skills. The trailer shows glimpses of them as he helps her work on her skills to obtain a husband. There is a carriage scene shown where Eloise says to Colin, “She’s not seeking a husband in you, I hope,” and he replies, “No, I’m merely helping her find one.” Little do both of them know that by the end of the season, Penelope and Colin will be married. So she might not be looking for him as a husband, but she will end up finding him as one. At the same time, he realizes that he loves her romantically.

They show the clip of the iconic book scene, where Penelope has to bandage Colin’s hand after he cuts it on a letter opener! Penelope is turning heads this season with her new look. The trailer shows a clip where she shows up to a ball wearing a green dress instead of yellow, and it is making people’s heads turn. This season, it looks to be some sort of love triangle with the entrance of Lord Debling, who is looking to find a wife. He seems to like Penelope a lot.

A conversation between Colin and his mother, Violet Bridgerton, is shown where he asks her, “Mother, do you believe the best foundation for love is friendship?” and she replies, “It is rare, but you must follow your heart.” All being a voiceover for a clip of Penelope laughing at Colin’s joke, showing that he might be realizing that he does love her and he wants to be with her.

The end of the trailer is what looks like the entrance to the famous carriage scene from the books, which is when Colin finds out Penelope is Lady Whistledown. He seems to have found her out where she was not supposed to be in a way that makes it seem like he followed her. Fans will have to wait and see what happens during season 3.

The trailer has reached about 4.5 million on YouTube as of April 15 and is sure to rise in numbers. This makes it the most-watched trailer for the Bridgerton series ever. Fans must be extremely excited to see the next chapter of love stories since the last season debuted in 2022, and the spin-off “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” was released in May 2023.

“Bridgerton” season 3 will be released on Netflix in two parts. Part one is on May 16, 2024, and part two is on June 13, 2024.
