Eric O’Shea has been nominated as Campus Activities Magazine’s Male Performer of the Year seven times, winning the honor in 2007. O’Shea is also known for his closing joke, “Songs for
Commercials,” where he replaces soundtrack music of commercials with songs that describe the product being sold. The video of this bit has passed 4 million views on YouTube.
O’Shea uses observations of things that we all do on a daily basis, such as needing to get a look at the slow driver in front of you as you pass him, talking to yourself while driving and how convincing the infomercial voiceover guy is.
O’Shea had the entire audience in tears with his exciting style, keeping everyone interested in the show and working the crowd, especially those brave enough to sit in the front row.
Onstage for 45 minutes, O’Shea touched on a wide range of subjects — from getting scolded at the supermarket by his mother for wanting a name-brand cereal, to an insanely accurate impression of Elmo.
The crowd really was laughing from beginning to end at O’Shea’s unique brand of humor and exploded with laughter when the most famous bit was performed, the “Songs for Commercials” that has made O’Shea famous. When watching the bit live, you can appreciate why it has been viewed millions of times on YouTube.
O’Shea has performed at more than 1,200 colleges and universities and his tour schedule can be found at ericoshea.com.
