The wait is over. The sequel to John Carpenter’s 1978 slasher film “Halloween” has finally hit theaters. The boogeyman has made his return to the big screen in the form of The Shape, also known as Michael Myers. A story that scared the children of the late ’70s and early ’80s, still haunting the children of our generation today. The tale known as “The Babysitter Murders,” that generated $70 million worldwide in the year of its release. The sequel that has brought in over $96.7 million to the box office in just its opening weekend. Some boogeyman!
The film heavily keeps to the original. Even being the 11th installment in the series, it keeps true to fans who that have been waiting for a decent sequel. All that writers Danny McBride, Jeff Fradley and David Gordon Green needed was Jamie Lee Curtis and the permission of the man himself, John Carpenter. With their collaboration, the writers were able to create what critics are already calling the movie of the year.
We flash-forward 40 years, watching Laurie Strode, dealing with the world around her as she waits for the inevitable return of her brother, Michael Myers, who murdered her friends in the original 1978 film. She is alone, considering the toll that her attack has taken on her life; it has resulted in two failed marriages and losing custody of her daughter, Karen. Throughout the movie Laurie still attempts to build a relationship with Karen and her daughter, Allyson.
We are taken on a thrashing kill-spree as Michael inevitably escapes, driving the plot of the movie. Several people suffer the fate of the boogeyman himself, while others flee in fear as Laurie is faced to fight Michael off for the first time in 40 years when he comes after her and her family for the final time… or so we think.
Head to theaters and see “Halloween”!
