The Franklin Institute is being taken over by Marvel superheroes from April 13 through Sept. 2. “Marvel: Universe of Superheroes” is the museum’s newest exhibit. Viewers are taken on a journey through the start of comic books up until the movies we have all come to love today. It begins with a brief introduction video that tells how comic books emerged, with no competition from TV or internet but instead battled horror and crime books.
It all started 80 years ago at a New York publishing company. The video introduces viewers to Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko. Kirby began the Fantastic Four revival and Ditko created Spider-Man.
After that, the journey through time begins.
The exhibit introduces viewers to how comic books began and evolved, as well as the evolution and expansion of the characters and Marvel Universe. Throughout the journey, viewers also find out more about the brilliant minds behind the characters and the development of the stories.
Viewers learn about the boom of Captain America comics during World War II times, the story behind X-men being based on racism and the civil rights movement in the ’60s and much more. With props and costumes from the movies, original issues of comics, as well as life-sized figures of Black Panther, Spider-Man and even the Thing, the exhibit leaves its attendees in awe.
There is a lot to learn here, as well as a lot of fun to be had for all ages.
You are truly immersed in the process, creation and life of comic books and Marvel’s superhero universe from beginning to end.
