The Issue of Copyright

Copyright, as I talked about in last weeks class, is a grey area in United States law. That is, unless you have the money to pursue copyright cases. For instance, if I wanted to write a blog post titled “Copyright is Not the Problem, You Are!“, I could most likely have legal action taken upon me by skinnyartist.com for their article (http://skinnyartist.com/copyright-is-not-the-problem-you-are/). However, something tells me skinnyartist.com does not have the legal resources to take action upon me for it. But lets say I do a lip dub video of The Hunger Games for the summer camp I work for and post it on YouTube for campers to watch when they get back from camp. I could and would get that video taken down because of the way youtube is actively pursued by big movie studios for copyrighted content. See, that DID happen to me. There is such a hypocrisy towards the approach of copyright law in America. Our system favors the rich and large rather than those that would truly suffer from having an article or book published without their consent. There needs to be a change in the way that this type of law is approached in order for the American ideal of a free market to flourish in favor of those not in the 1%.

Keep an open mind.
