In conjunction with the University Libraries Undergraduate Research Award at Berks, the Thun Library will be offering an Undergraduate Research Workshop Series.  Join us for one or all of our three workshops on preparing for your senior thesis, capstone project, poster session, or the HECBC Undergraduate Research & Creativity Conference!

Research Freestyle

Undergraduate research is an overwhelming undertaking.  So how can you conquer the unanticipated challenges of a major original research project?  The Research Coaches at the Thun Library are here to help you manage your research project and troubleshoot your concerns.  Mark your calendar for our workshop Research Freestyle on Wednesday, February 19th from 12:15-1:15pm in Thun 137We will focus on an interactive approach that concentrates on individual participants’ unique research challenges – come prepared with questions!  Anticipated topics of discussion may include: identifying gaps in the literature, search persistence and creativity, interpretation of nontraditional formats like data and visual media, active reading and synthesis strategies, source attribution/citation management, and more!

Designing & Creating Effective Research Posters

Making a research poster can be a daunting process. How do you put all your research on one piece of paper? But never fear, the Research Coaches of the Thun Library are here to help! Don’t miss our workshop Designing and Creating Effective Research Posters on Wednesday, March 18th from 12:15-1:15pm in Thun 137. This workshop is designed for students at all stages of the poster creation process. Participants can expect to learn about best practices for creating visually appealing and effective posters, along with having the opportunity to put those best practices to use.

Presenting Your Research

Poster presentations are a great way to get started with sharing your research. But how do you share complex research in a short amount of time? Get ready for the HECBC Undergraduate Research & Creativity Conference with the Thun librarians and CAS 100 coordinator. At the Presenting Your Research Workshop on Wednesday, April 8th from 12:15-1:15pm in Thun 137, we will talk about what to expect at a research poster exhibition, including what to bring, what to say, and how to leverage your research poster into new opportunities. This workshop is designed for anyone who wants to improve how they present and discuss their research with an audience. Participants will leave with an elevator pitch to share their research quickly and effectively with anyone they meet.
