SeaWorld’s sales are continuing to decline and the Chief Executive Officer of SeaWorld, Jim Atichson knows this is due to the release of the documentary Blackfish which sheds light on the neglect of their Orcas in captivity.
There has been a reported 28% drop in sales and a 5.2 % drop in attendance. Not only has Blackfish been responsible for this, but all of the hard working activists deserve credit too. While Blackfish got the word out to the public and media, people wanted to do something so they joined activist groups and worked together to spread their knowledge on the subject to anyone who hasn’t seen or heard of the movie Blackfish.
Whether they have been spreading knowledge through Twitter accounts or social media, protesting, or making speeches, they are definitely doing something right, as the numbers show.
This is great news to the activists working to shut down SeaWorld and free the whales. Hopefully sales will continue to decline and attendance will stay at an all time low, forcing SeaWorld to shut down. If that does not happen, we can only hope that one day the legalities of animal captivity will work in our favor and the law will force SeaWorld to be shut down.
