A Sexual Assault was reported to the Bern Township Police Department on 03/03/2017 at approximately 03:45 AM. The victim, a Penn State student, reported that an assault occurred on 03/02/2017 at approximately 07:00 PM while walking on a trail located in the Grings Mill Park in Bern Township.

Location Description:

The incident reportedly occurred in the Grings Mill Park located in Bern Township. The area is an off campus location but in close proximity to Penn State Berks Campus.

Safety tips:

  • Perpetrators are responsible for sexual assaults. Perpetrators take advantage of vulnerability and seek opportunities to commit sexual assaults.
  • Report all suspicious persons, vehicles, and activities to your University Police department immediately.
  • Tell someone you trust your destination and planned time of return.
  • Trust your instincts. If you feel unsafe, get to a safe place and call for help.

It can be assumed that conditions continue to exist that may pose a threat to members and guests of the University community. It is the duty of the administration to warn of possible “dangerous conditions” on or near the campus, and at affiliate organizations off campus; an “affirmative duty” exists to warn persons associated with the University of possible peril at the hands of some third party or parties.
