When it comes to food, I am not your typical connoisseur. Rather, I am an expert at telling what foods I DON’T like or recommend, and why. I understand that everyone has different taste buds, so coming from someone who is super picky, my opinions do not always mean much. However, people love hearing why I don’t like certain foods and think it is interesting that there are SO MANY foods that I don’t like. There are a lot of head-turners in my list of foods I don’t like, and I find it quite funny to see people’s reactions.
Ever since I moved in to PSU, I am very much so an early bird. I wake up around 8am each morning (which may not be early to some, but it definitely is for me). With that being said, I now eat breakfast every morning, which is not typical of me to do. I have definitely noticed some improvement in my daily routines, my sleep, and overall quality of life now that I eat breakfast. But I still dislike a LOT of breakfast foods.
I am one of those people that stick to the same things. I have a very specific liking of certain foods, and I definitely eat the same things week after week. In my eyes, any type of chicken is all diamonds and pearls. They are the best go-to food item. At a fancy restaurant? Order chicken fingers. In the drive-thru? Order chicken nuggets. Going to Red Robin but you don’t even like burgers? It’s okay, they have chicken too!
(Fun Fact: Despite Red Robin being mostly famous for their burgers, I hate hamburgers but I love their chicken sandwiches and boneless wings. Red Robin scores very highly and is in my top 5 restaurants.)
Now, I would like to share with you all some of the commonly-loved foods that I actually despise, as well as why:
- As I mentioned, hamburgers. It’s strange to me as it is to everyone else because it’s just ground beef, and I like ground beef. However, I think the way burgers are cooked and seasoned, they just are not good to me. I also don’t like typical burger toppings, such as tomatoes, mayo, ketchup, onions, etc. So I can’t even enjoy a traditional burger if I DID like the patty itself.
- PICKLES! Everyone thinks I am insane for this. “Oh it’s just like a cucumber!” But it is not. At all. I think pickles smell bad, taste bad, and look weird. Once I went to Chick-Fil-A and ordered a plain sandwich and removed the pickles, and they still put them on. I bit into it and cringed and i literally took the breading off of my chicken so I could finish the sandwich without tasting the pickle.
- I hate to say it but I hate pie. No matter the flavor, I just cannot deal with the consistency of the filling v. the crunchy crust on the outside. I have never had a slice of pie and enjoyed it.

One of my best friends from home is just like this; she will order chicken tenders off the kids menu at ANY restaurant. I love your metaphor too!
Some of my interesting favorite foods are Thai food, celery, and tortellini.
Chicken fingers have a giant place in my heart. I’ve never had thai food but I really want to try it. I also LOVEEE celery!!
I am so sorry, but I LOVE pickles. I am a pickle girl until the day I die. Also, my parents traveled to Thailand before I was born, so we ate Thai all of the time growing up. I am not a huge fan of celery, but I drink celery juice for health purposes. I do like hamburgers, but I hate the buns. Unless it is brioche, I usually get a lettuce wrap as its placeholder.
